IMO, any Standalone would definitely be a major improvement over any piggyback!

AEM, Haltech, Pro EFI, Motec, etc.

Of course, the answer to your question mainly depends on the depth of your pockets.. If you're looking for value, bang for your buck, then the AEM/Haltech would be sufficient. However, if you're a baller then you might want the to step up to the Pro EFI/Motec big boy section..:D

Seriously, you can get Version 1 AEM all day for about a $1K and you'll be good to go..

Haltech, Pro EFI, Motec or Vipec v88 are all real good choices however Aem is ok if you just need basic features or if cash is an issue then mega squirt is also good for the money as well.

I have talked this guy on the phone personally, I dont think he is going to short change anything on this motor or build. You all beat me to chime in on the answer. I agree any standalone will better than a piggyback.. I say Haltech, its expensive, but its the ****zel when it comes to tuning! Jay, good luck on your choice.

Im looking to drop $8000-$10000 in my stand alone, 67 billet dual ball bearing turbo, injectors, cams, and installation and tuning... any ideas for place to do the work? Ive contacted Carma in Nashville.
What you guys think?

levie 08-31-11 01:58 PM

is this single turbo already in? im looking to ditch the ct12's that came with my 1j. this is a similar swap to what i wanna do. what power range are you trying to be in? because i was thinking 650cc injectors, but why did you choose 780?

supraclone 08-31-11 02:55 PM

It already had a 76mm, but its to big for a manual tranny. as far as the injectors go they r going bigger with this setup. the last owner choose this setup. I wanna put down atleast 600rwhp on pump gas...

supraclone 08-31-11 10:10 PM

So if you had 8-10000.00 to spend on my setup, What would you do???

turbodremz 08-31-11 10:42 PM

I would start by contacting the local shop thats going to do the dyno tuning and see what they are more experienced with. Then make your decision from there. No point in buying a standalone if your local tuner has no clue how to use it.

On top of that, no one is going to beable to make the final decision for you. Your going to hear a different suggestion most of the time, but in the end its all going to be the same grab bag of options. As already stated, depends on how much you want to spend.

1J0Z SC 08-31-11 11:08 PM

Haltech all the way, I will always use these for my cars...

supraclone 08-31-11 11:09 PM

Im not letting the local guy do it... Im taking to either Carma or Yellow munson paddys garage in kingsport tn...

lexforlife 09-01-11 05:36 AM

do a simple aem bro.. just remember to get the patch harness and buy a aem 1100 box for supra gte .. my tuner alpha is in tampa and does go to alabama to tune all the time .. hes one of the best in the country hands down .. read about him on supra forums screen name is alpha

1J0Z SC 09-01-11 07:25 AM

Here is my reasoning for my haltech...

Haltech info

lexforlife 09-01-11 11:52 AM

sincerely doubt a pick up of 100 rwhp is due to going standalone maybe 1/2 that in reality but bottom line it makes for a more efficient platform

1JZPWRD 09-01-11 12:14 PM

I guess you have talked to TrackMasters in Huntsville?
