Default Made a trade offer with my SC towards another car

The first car I ever saw that really made me go WTF is that?!? was a 90-96 Z32 twin turbo in pearl white, t-tops. Always wanted one, never been able to get one. Had 2 opportunities to get one, and actually passed up a yellow NA 300ZX to get my SC400 which I regret to be honest. The SC has always been a reliable car and runs great and looks fantastic, but always wanted a 300ZX. I've had just about every other Z except for one, which also kinda adds to the allure.

A couple days ago I found a local pearl while t-top 92 5 speed twin turbo on my local Craigslist. The guy was wanting to get something different for it. Turns out he's 17, his mom bought it for him but since he's about to get back into school, she wants him to have a more daily driver type car. It's got new gaskets/seals, water pump/timing belt, new tires, good strong clutch, stock turbos and only 126k on it. The interior leaves a little to be desired but I'm sure after a good shampooing and cleaning it'll look a lot better. The best part, it's only mod is a K&N cone filter, Stillen short shifter, and the p/o before him had exhaust pipes made for it. The likelihood of it being driven hard and abused compared to the typical one with full exhaust, intake, boost controller, all that kinda stuff is very slim.

I made him an offer on my car today, and we'll see if he bites. He really liked my car, and his mom was pulling for it since she's a huge Toyota/Lexus fan.

I totally understand. Ive wanted a pearl white z32 since 89. I forgot about the Z when i seen a sc in pete rock and cl smooth's viedo. Since then ive had friends who've owned z's so i know about their trials and tribulations. I know the good and bads about z's. Therefore i can never own one untill i have perfected hybrid engine swaps. That VG is a big no go to me because to make power you have to do a intense amount of modding. But yea. Thats just me. If you really want it, go for it. Life is always about change.

Definitely pass they are not reliable, my brother owned a clean 91, 5spd ,T-top, 2+2 they are nothing but problems we even did a engine swap and the problems persisted. They are nice but walk away unless your prepared to spend some cash….you been warned.

Yep, Ill never on a Nissan for that reason... unless its a g35 coupe with a GTE swap.

Worked on far too many of them over the years and they are junk. Cool to look at sometimes but mostly junk.

I personally have always wanted a 300zx. I've always heard they weren't that reliable and they are really hard to work on. The 300zx you're talking about sounds like it's in good shape though. I would go for it if you can do all of the work to it yourself.

Hmm, have to do some intense modding to make some power? Sounds a lot like the SC400 I've got now lol

They're different cars with different missions. I wouldn't say one is "better" than the other. Do realize that the 90s turbo cars are maintenance *****s and none of it is easy to do or cheap. As long as you accept that up front you'll enjoy the new car.

BTW, you would have been bored with a non-turbo version. 200hp is ok but when you're blown away by soccer moms in their minivans it might bother you a bit.

I got my SC400 precisely because it's a "gas and go" proposition. I enjoyed my two twin-turbo Stealths and the stack of DSMs I had before that. My Subaru was too expensive ($30k car and $10k under the hood) for the current economy to bear even though it was stupid fast for what looked like a Camry with a hood scoop. I might have $2500 into this car when I'm finished with the restoration and that's great for such a competent car.

Down the road I'll probably go twin turbo again -- this time probably a 3000GT VR4 Spyder. I've always liked the idea of a hard top convertible.
