Default curiosity broke the wallet.

just curious about what my future may hold. i do not know as much about performance as i would like to but i know there are some really knowledgeable people here in cl. so for future planning i would like to know what kind of hp can be made in my 96 sc300 automatic without going boost? i am mostly shooting for restoration and style but want more ponys as well. hoping for a point in the right direction as to what i can do to get it up over say 250 hp. i really want a manual in this car and maybe one day i can afford to do a swap to a stock boosted manual. but for now i am interested in the details. thanks for any help.

probably won't get too far, intake and exhaust...the typical BPU stuff will get you like 5-10hp if done right; maybe a rebuild too

240hp+ without boost is like a pipe dream

yea gonna be tough to get that kinda hp out of that motor your best bet is to not spend any money on your motor except for maintanance of courseand save save save and save some more and 1j or 2j swap and your power goals will be met if your goo dthe mechanics you can do the swap yourself wit a little help and there a bunch of swap 300 on here so you will surely get all the info on the diy approach

He's got a stock sc300 so much more turd-like and just as costly in gas.

What I have done in the past.....

XERD (MVP) headers..... felt a bit of gain, but the sound of the engine with them on was unbearable.... really raspy at a certain midrange rpm point (around 3000rpm) and they just sounded like crap..... like a broken Accord or a bad sounding Civic. That will get you a bit more power but it's not worth it since they were like $400+ if I remember correctly.

Besides that, on a stock SC, the only thing that will make it feel more alive is going 5spd...

so basically just do the swap.. ok i get it. there are tons of vvti,s on egay. would you guys think that would be a good route? i have seen the full engine and 5speed going for like 1900-2200 i could swing a swap in like a year. but full blow after market boost just no way. unless i hit the power ball. are these engines gonna get me up over 200 at least? or what stock turbo engine is the easiest cheapest swap?

1jzgte swap if you're not in california, around 300-400ish easy; swap is cheap also, I think people calculated it as the cheapest way to gain power

I know you don't want to go boost, but it's the more "money efficient" option. This is what I am personally doing.
BoostLogic turbo kit-$5k
BoostLogic built auto Transmission-$1500
Hopefully, it'd be a nice upgrade. =)

to get 250 rwhp on a sc300 without going boost your ONLY option is 100 shot of nitrous. Cost is a bit over 1k. Still Dave H turbo kit is about 2k? if i'm not mistaken. Cheap turbo option is the way to go to reach your goal of 250hp on a consistent basis.

for what 30 hp and no chance of a 5 speed no ty i will take my chances with the i6. sorry but the 2jz is just a better engine. i drove a couple 400;s when i was shopping for the sc. they got nothing more really. a few ponys. and it feels heavier in the front end. im all for the 5 speed swap. thanks for all the input guys. i heard what i needed to hear. now its time to school myself on the swap process and save the dough. so roundabout 3000 if i do the swap myself? 5000 at a shop? sound about right?

Tests conducted on the new engines showed an acceleration for the SC 400 for years 1992–1995 of 0–60 mph in 6.9 seconds, years 1996–1997 in 6.7 seconds, and years 1998-2000 in 6.3 seconds. For the SC 300 an acceleration 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds with the 5 speed manual and 7.2 seconds with the 4 speed automatic for all years.

no, Easier engine. the v8 will always make higher numbers. More cylinders, More power. v8 with 16 psi? or 2j with 16psi? The 1uzfe will make more power and torque, just cost's more to get there. Just because there is no after market support doesn't mean its a worse motor. there are a few companys out there that make manuel swaps for the sc400 as well

Always a good rule of thumb, Take how much you think its goiing to cost and double it. There is ALWAYS some dumb little thing that your going to have to fix and extra parts you will have to buy. It adds up
