Default Need advice on getting R154 to line up.

So after getting the beast lined up, I can't get the transmission shaft inserted. I would say its about 1-1.5 inches away from seating. I done this before but with no hub sticking out. Anyones past failures or successes are welcomed.

Thanks

R154 is a b$$$ specially in the car, slide the PP and clutch in the trans bolt up the trans to the engine and then line up the PP to flywheel and then tighten the 6 bolts.

I always wondered why you can't just install the clutch to the flywheel and then slide the trans in like a push type clutch setup? I was able to just pull the fork off my R154 and then slide the trans off with the clutch still bolted up tot he flywheel, so why can't you install it like that too?

I'm not sure either, my guess is it would just be harder to line up and stab the front of the shaft to the pilot bearing.

To answer my own question, I searched and apparently you CAN install it with the clutch bolted to the flywheel in some cars where the bellhousing will clear the tunnel and the flywheel/clutch assembly. I guess most cars will not allow the input to engage the clutch splines before the bell hits the tunnel and everything stops playing nice. It cant be any harder to stab than a W58 if the engine is out of the car...

it can be done but the spline on the output shaft must be aligned precisly or no go.. to much frustration just do it the way quickgs stated above..

Got it!!! It took me 6 choice words, 2 jacks, and one big push. Next time I think I will just take the engine and trans out at the same time.

LOL nice job man. There are tricks to get the trans in easy. For me it is mainly a precision sized block of wood between the downpipe and floor pan to get the perfect down angle on the engine. Then the trans slides right in

the fork kind of holds it in. i did this on Saturday, here are a few pics of us installing the fork on the r154 after the trans and clutch were bolted up. OHhh yeah whom ever installe dthe last clutch in my r154 forgot to even put a Bearing even in. It didnt hurt it but im glad i figured it out and got one. the fork snaps into 2 clips inside the transmission. PS you can just slide it in then just install the fork after you have the R154 Connected. I cut the opening up a little more inside the car for the shifter but i am still going to run into the Crappy carbon fiber thing that holds in some of my gauges in front of the shifter.

Triple 3, how much clutch feel do you have? It seems like I only have about 2 inches. I bleeded the line, but I thought a stage 3 would have more of an grab.

It is the same as it was before. You can adjust the pedal depth but as far as the feel of your clutch im not sure how you can get it dialed in for your likeing. 2 inches sounds about right for my Stage 2 but now that i think about it it felt more like 3 to 3 1/2 when it was in my Supra. Im not sure ill let you know if it sucks or not when i drift the living hell out of it this weekend
