Thumbs up

Hello folks!

I just wanted to transfer over this topic from the old board. I'm very interested to hear people's feedback who have actually installed a genuine (Phillips?) HID/XENON kit with ballasts into their SC300/400.

And hopefully we can get some feedback as to where to get them in the United States, perhaps a larger, reputable dealer?

Further, if you have these installed where did you get them installed? How much?

Thanks all!!!! Oh, and I really liked spirithome's explaination of the difference between fake and real ones...so I pasted it in here for reference. Thanks Spirit!!!

Enjoy!

The REALITY of AFTERMARKET LIGHTING OPTIONS spirithome
I think those who have been on this
forum for awhile all can concur, that
aftermarket lights are expensive, and more
for show.

I compare aftermarket bulbs to the likes of
most aftercat exhaust systems. It's mostly for
show. Exhausts shound good, but really don't
add more power.
Aftermarket lights make cool looking lights, but
don't perform very well. That's just a fact.

I've bought ALL makes and models of bulbs to acheive
that XENON, HID look.

The keyword here is LOOK...not performance.

ANy blue tinted bulb, is going to block out more
usable light than a stock bulb. PERIOD. That should
be obvious to anyone who's studied physics...or just
realizing that a CLEAR bulb is going to emit more
light than a colored one.

My takes on the major bulbs.
(judged on LOOK not PEFORMANCE).
For the most part. Aftermarket lights all perform
less than the stock ones in terms of actual light spread.
HOwever...If you are looking at an oncoming car with aftermarket lights they LOOK cooler than stock.

ANALYSIS OF THE BULBS

PIAA. Expensive, but LOOK bright. More white than blue.
VISION Very BLUE just as expensive, but burn out in 1-3 months.
NOKYA. The bluest bulb of the group. Cheap. LOOK
the coolest but perform the worst.
BL HYBRID. Close to PIAA, but don't last as long...
just as expensive.
SYLVANIA BLUES: You get what you pay for. They don't do much at all.. Poor look and poor quality.

FOR ME, after going through bulb after bulb and wasting
a ton of money on this, I decided..compromising performance for looks was not going to cut it.

MY SOLUTION? Get the REAL THING.
I put in real phillips HID/XENON gas lights with ballasts and the rest is history.

They LOOK and PERFORM awesomely. ALso you guys,
the price for TRUE HID lights has gone down.
I think you can get a set between 500-700bucks for a set.

That MAY seem pricey to most, but after you run through
a couple sets of those pricey WANNABE bulbs above...
you might as well just get the real thing.

Nothing beats the real thing.
I would've saved a lot more time and money had I done
that in the first place.

My 2 cents(no pun intended)

Spirit.

Smile I'll be putting in a set soon

I have a set, and will be putting them in soon, (if it's warm enough this weekend)
I'll try to take some pics and post them for the group.

Lightbulb bulbs

"HyperWhite" light bulbs look better than the stanard bulbs (has a nice blue-ish daylight white color)
but if you compare it to a real hid set, the light output looks pretty pathetic.
On my friend's car (accord coupe) We put in one real HID light and compared it to the existing "hyerwhite". From 30 feet away it looks like one light is out....
Just no comparison

The weather here in NY sucks now (it's snowing off n on all weekend) So I'll have to put off installing my hid's

Regards
Ken
