Default The latest of my insanity, home made hood!

I got a lot of PM's asking me to put this project in a different thread to track easily, so here ya go.

I will update this thread as I go/ make progress

I'm tired of looking at that big number(3800 Lbs) in my signature, so I decided to do something about it. First item I decided should go is the hood. The hood alone is 65 LBS. I looked around and I wasn't about to pay 600 bucks for a fiberglass hood with a CF layer on top. So, I said F this, I'm gonna make my own 100% Carbon fiber hood.
My goal is to make a sub-8Lbs hood.
And it begins: First step is to make a female mold, and what a ***** this is

I apologize for not having as many pictures, time is extremely limited when you're dealing with these chemicals

what a mess

I'm in the process of finalizing the mold to increase rigidity right now. More pics to come real soon.

Today I battled with the mold for about 65 minutes, then I claimed victory as it let go off of my hood.

Some nasty and sharp stuff, by the end of the day I was bleeding all over lol

I started making this mold last Saturday. While I was laying it, resin dried up quicker than I thought (supposed to be slow hardener). I had to abandon ship, dump it on the mold, and walk away as toxic smoke was being released lol

The mold came out perfect. However it was too flexible for my liking. I decided to add wooden reinforcements to increase rigidity. I didn't want that mold to flex while I'm laying my CF

WHAT A MESS

My neighbor came down while I was mixing this nasty stuff wearing a chemical mask, and he immediately ran away lol

Messing around, made a mold of a license plate lol

Took the mold completely off of the car

Back to being a Lexus

And now, I can, again, drive my car everyday...
