I had the same problem with the trunk not opening from inside when I bought my car. Did a little research and found out why this is. Between the gas panel and trunk switch under your steering wheel to the left there is a key insert. If you insert your car key there and turn it you disable the trunk switch from within. The only way I released this was by opening that panel, kind of bending it, and behind that key insert was a 2mm white clip that needs to be pushed in. Very easy!!!

I think I searched for diy removing interior dash and it had this info.

pull the wiring harness clip off of the trunk release button under the driver side dash. once you get it off put a jumper wire between the pins and it should pop the trunk

Not a big deal man. Tell them to call the dealer with the vin and get it remade. you will need to take your title and reg down to the dealer to pick up the new master key. and the remote if they lost that too. The key will be 40-$60 tell the shop to take it off your bill.

40-$60???? Wheres this from??? Thats cheap. I think thats how much it costs at least to get the side cuts if you have a blank key. With the remote I think it'd be +$150

Just go get another key made. My local dealer charged me $25 for the most basic master key. If you're feeling extra spendy then for $50 I could get a Lexus emblem on the key and for $250 I could get a new remote.

In 2006 they lost my key at the detail shop for my IS300, which was a 2001. Bad move. New computer, new key, $1800........ plus tow bill. They didn't quite make profit on that $250 cut and buff.

Thank god I have an '02 now and just have to replace the key if ever lost.
