lol... Bypassing the heater control valve is a common work-a-round for the SC. Just remember to bypass the heater core in the summer or your AC wont work.

Not needed in FL. Chunk it.

It's a device that turns your hot antifreeze through your core and vents when you need it and you live in florida...........so......... yeah.

Just replace it, They're easy to obtain and easy to replace and you can get 'em at a local junkyard for about $50 like I did...and who knows? You might end up selling the car to someone else in the future, hence the need to replace the heater control valve.

After that question I'm gonna advise you don't touch it at all.

Sorry to bring up a really, really old thread, but I found it searching and has pretty much answered my question, except for one. Also, this is on a 94 GS 300, but for the most part it should be the same correct?

O.L.T you mentioned that you can just do away with the heater control valve if one wants to do so. Well I do, I live in south FL, and I have owned my GS almost 7 years, and have never once touched the heat on it. Never. But, the A/C does work perfect, and I use it on a daily basis.

The main reason I am posting is the rear hose going from the head to the HCV (Heater Conrol Valve) burst again on me today, and I currently have it bypassing the HCV as the plastic fitting on the HCV broke as well, while we were trying to fix the hose. SO, with that said, I just want to do away with it completely.

First off, do you really have have to do something to the heater core to keep the a/c working, and if so what? I turned the A/C off on my drive in to work after fixing it this morning and have not driven the car again since, so I do not know if the current configuration has effected the A/C yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
-Bryan
