Is that OK?

I finally got the VIN registered with Lexus to check the maint. history. It had 8 pages of maintenance up until this owner, all from the Lexus dealer. Everything from Timing Belt (back in 2002), radiator, antenna motor, etc.

The last important service was in March of 2007 when it had the 60K mile service done to it. It has always been serviced at the last dealer. From 0-50K, it had it's oil and fluids changed as well as other things check religiously. It even saw the dealer frequently until about 2007 when I assume this person bought it.

I didn't see anything that scared me, rather it seems as though the car was taken in for anything such as "drivers side door sqeek" for the first 50K miles or so, until around 2003.

Hopefully you guys aren't tired of seeing this thread. You guys have been tons of help and keep me level headed about this car.

Default Final Update

First off, thanks for all your input in regards to this car.

Ashtray was nice enough to take time out of his afternoon and set it up so his mechanic shop could take a look at the car. I'm glad they did as the car has some serious problems.

I don't need to get into details, but the entire steering system up front is jacked, the engine is leaking oil, and the radiator and support structure is broken. Basically, the car runs good, but it has some serious things that need to be fixed, and I don't have the time or patience to deal with it.

So, on to hopefully an LS400. An LS makes more sense for my wife and I anyways, I was hoping that this car was mechanically sound...well I was completely wrong.

It was a great $49 I spent for them to lift it and inspect it.

Thanks CL and you can close the thread.

Why not take a look at the GS? Not really a "boat" compared to the LS.

I probably will, although I didn't mention it in the post. What do you know about the reliability of the 1st Generation GS?

1st generation GS, I have no idea. If you've got any questions on the 2nd generation, I'll help you out the best I can.

The guy said I could have it for $1500. Not sure what to do, tomorrow I leave out of town, and it would be impossible to sell a car if he's not around.

It would become a project car with the steering components, oil leak, and radiator and radiator mounts.

Get the codes checked out first. CE lights could get real expensive. could be a good bargaining chip.

Default I went ahead got it....$1000

Well, I got it for $1,000. It needs some work on the radiator, radiator mounts, steering, and its got a major oil leak. The car runs good, interior is in pretty good shape, body is OK, although it needs a front bumper.

Anyways, it's a 92 SC400 with 87,500 miles. It has an extensive service history through the Lexus dealer up until 2007. The next owner hit something and shoved the radiator mount into the steering, and that into the oil pan which has caused a bad oil leak.

The car starts up, runs great, but the steering is all jacked up. I figure if I can put a couple thousand into the car, I could have a nice running SC for about $3-4K.

This is a project car and I look forward to the project and hope it out of control. I have finally joined the you guys, although mine isn't in as nice of shape as yours...
