Default Rear Subframe.

Well since I've gotten this car over a month ago, I've just been driving it and learning about this car. Seems like such a marvel for its time (92).

When I got it, I started going over the car to see what may need immediate attention and or replacement. 3 key areas are of concern; 1. Rear subframe 2. Rusty brake and fuel lines and 3. Stumbling, bucking or missing under moderate to heavy acceleration above 3000 rpms. It's annoying to say the least. There would be a 4th but I managed to get the trunk lifts done. Yay!🙌🏽

I have read up on a thread here (re: no#3) for things to test and eliminate before throwing money at it in hopes to get it corrected. I may pick up a used fuel ecu so I can test that theory out. I'd rather not bypass it if possible.

I did however after going under the car notice rust on the rear subframe, I can't really be sure what state it's in and where the real holes may be hiding. So I went and got one from someone parting our their 95 sc400 and seen as it was rusty or what may have been surface rust, I took it. They are hard to come by.

I got my hands on a descaler and got it all cleaned up. I figured if it can be cleaned up, I'll prep it to be repainted and rust protect it as well. It turned out that the tool exposed some weak spots along the way and now I'm not sure it's salvageable. Perhaps someone can frabricate something to strengthen it, otherwise it's toast and the hunt for one better will continue.

Here are some pics.

What did I do today?

What didn’t I do today? , is finish the hydro fan setup delete, and install 1gen 1uz clutch fan bracket+pulley and the ac belt surprisingly fits, because the diameter of the pulleys are the same between vvti and none!
Then I deleted the power steering cooler mess, all of the brackets and all the junk assaosiated with over engineering stuff that I don’t care for on this car is going bye bye
I did not delete the hydro pump cooler, because it has the same size hoses going to it as the power steering, so now it’s a power steering cooler!!
closer to the end of the day I installed one of 2 of my electric fans in pull mode 1800 cfm+ each plenty, will follow by making room for a 4” core Intercooler infront of the rad!
More to come...
mob made a bar table 2 stools from sc trunk!!! GET YOU SOME OF THAT LMAO!!!

Replaced my fuel filter. Last time I changed it was ~35k miles ago... but that was also 9 years ago. So I was due to change anyway.

As you can imagine, the job itself is rather quick and easy if you don't count the 2.5 hours it takes for fuel to pour/drip out of the slightly loosened fittings. When all was said and done I think 1.5-2.5 gallons of gas came out before it stopped.

I will vouch, the filter does work. My gas was in excellent condition but that still didn't stop lots of small dark particles from flowing out of the filter. I wonder if the fact that our cars are ~20+ years old, and there's just so much contamination that happens naturally (maybe internal gas tank corrosion as well) that this sort of thing is normal now. OH, and there was a very small amount of WATER that was trapped in the filter too. I could see that at the bottom of my yellow coolant catch bucket. Dirty liquid-underneath-liquid is very easy to spot.

The gas that was good I just poured into my gas can to use for the lawn mower. The lowest layer I let evaporate away. The contaminates left behind looked like grey ash. Very small particles. You couldn't feel them with your fingers, just see them. I have no idea where that stuff comes from. Probably from hundreds of different gas pumps over the years

I did a ton of maintenance that was way overdue. Installed Aisin timing belt and water pump kit, thermostat, ngk iridum plugs and ngk wires, beck arnley rotor and cap, valve cover gasket along with distributor o ring since there were some bad oil leaks. New alternator and denso radiator. Shes running like new. Still need a new paint job and find newer interior.

I started with VHT Flameproof Primer, followed by Duplicolor Ceramic Brake Paint, then Duplicolor Ceramic Gloss clear.

After a year of trying to find a new console piece I finally bit the bullet and had mine stripped and painted. Looks 1000% better than the coating on the stock piece.

Started my GTE ECU swap.
Installed 440cc injectors (HUGE PAIN!!!), and new plugs. Hoping to be done with it by end of the night Friday.

Recieved the TT rotors, SS lines will arrive tomorrow, so those will also be installed this weekend.
