If your car has a distributor, I’d up the base timing to 12 or 14. High NOx = lean mix, retarded timing, CAT failure...

I purchased my 1992 SC300 last year, and have not been documenting my progress thus far, but will make an effort to do so going forward. That said, on various days in the past year I have:
  • First I gave it a
    Sea Foam Sea Foam
treatment in the fuel tank, oil reservoir, and intake then drove it for 25-40 miles.
  • Changed the
    engine oil engine oil
    and
    filter filter
    .
  • Changed the air
    filter filter
    .
  • Added
    cabin filter cabin filter
, since it's a 1992 it needed to be modified to fit.
  • The old finish on the steering wheel was rough so I gave it a new
    wrap wrap
    .
  • Installed a black round ball gear selector ****. Sorry, no link, but it's just a black ball with the 5-speed pattern on top, nothing special, just my preference.
  • Replaced the gear selector seat and bushing with the heavy duty Marlin Crawler gear.
  • Changed the
    transmission oil transmission oil
    .
  • Changed the
rear diff oil rear diff oil
    .
  • New
cap and rotor cap and rotor
    .
  • New
    wires wires
    .
  • New
    plugs plugs
    .
  • Swapped in
SS brake lines SS brake lines
    .
  • Flushed
    brake fluid brake fluid
    .
  • Added a bottle of
fuel system cleaner fuel system cleaner
    to the tank.
  • Blacked out the badges with
    Plasti Dip Plasti Dip
    .
  • Jumped the FP and B+ point on my OBD port to bypass a bad fuel pump ECU.
  • Ordered personalized plate in tribute to my fallen dog.
  • Replaced the heater control valve, though the heater still does not work. I need to spend more time messing with it. Sorry no link, but I used the Four Seasons 74636 one recommended by KahnBB6 here.
  • Replaced the fuel pump ECU, but the replacement doesn't work, so I need to exchange the unit. Sorry no link.
  • Replaced bent antenna with a
    new mast new mast
, but the one they sent appears to be for a different car as it doesn't fit, need to exchange for the right one.
  • Attempted to pull stock steering wheel, need to rent a puller. Also, still waiting on some odds and ends to finalize installing a 98-05 GS300 three spoke, once those come in I'll rent the puller.
  • Ordered a set of 95-00 LS400 calipers, $112.00 shipped for the pair. Seemed like a good deal so i ordered them even though I wont be able to put them on until I get my wheels/tires sorted out.

Not sure how, but successfully passed the CA smog test today. In 2014, the HC reading was 74 (the max is 75); in 2016 it hit 75 and barely passed... Today, after no real special or extraordinary preparation, went down to the test-only STAR certified site and passed with a 59 and all other readings well within limits..... (see below)

The temperature of the cat changes the readings a lot. I've smogged my car after a 2 hour drive on the highway and passed with flying colors. Other years I've taken the car from a cold start straight to the smog shop and barely passed.

Started to dissasemble the engine, but ran out of time!! My son is my big helper!
To make things easier on myself, I’m going to separate the tranny before I do this oil change
