Thumbs up Polyurethane Rack Bushings

Wow! I bought the car and it was straight up scary to drive down the road at any speed.

I originally thought that a control arm or something was clunking in the front end, and the steering was VERY loose (almost unsafe).

I took the olds one out. Well, there was no rubber left at all due to a power steering leak on the little ones. The big one SEEMED ok, but it actual reality you could see where the metal had been hitting metal on metal (smooth, silver around the edge of the bushing) so I'm glad to get this one out of the way.

I no longer have any steering issues, the thud is gone, and my car tracks straight (most of the time). I know it needs an alignment too so that should be it for now.

I could not get to the top one, there was so much gunk on top of the damn thing I couldn't even see. So I'll take another stab it on Sunday and see if I can get to it.

Props to Daizen for the bushings, and TMR for pushing them out so fast.

PS... In my test, I did an embarrassing moment. I went to go up a driveway a little bit sideways due to the lowness of the car. Well, I got three tires apparently up, and the right one didn't. I hit the gas and went no where. I thought the transmission had just gone out (P.O. had it rebuilt) but apparently I was just spinning my one wheel in the air. ^_^

^^ Yep, that's very typical for these cars.

It's pretty straight forward. You have to leave EVERYTHING loose whenever you're putting the bottom halfs in or else you won't have enough room to slip them in there.

What I did was loosened everything up, bench press it up (it stays up whenever you do this), pull the old gunk out (or in my case FALL out), slip it up under there, pull the rack back down on top of them, insert the tops and the metal tube, insert the bolt (it might take a slight tap of the hammer, or in my case the impact gun) to get the bolt to go down as there is no more play, tighten up the bolts and you're done.

My impact gun barely fit...but I did manage to make it work.
