Hi,

My son just purchased a 1992 SC400 with 172K km on it. One of the items that looks worn on the car is the steering wheel. It has the usual spots where the outer surface of the leather has worn away.

Has anyone had good experiences with leather covers that lace onto the wheel?

I see there's a product on eBay that seems to snap right over the steering wheel rim. The photo only shows the side that faces the driver. I assume there's another piece that attaches from behind. Has anyone bought one of these?

Would you be able to post photos? I'm interested to see how they look around the spokes of the wheel.

I can barely lace my shoes, so this could be a challenge...

That looks pretty good - I haven't heard of SEM before though - I see they make car repair products. What did you use?

What is SEM.

I refinished mine with a process that is used in furniture repairs and refinishing and it looks good.

Please be more specific about the SEM.

Here's what I used. The can on the right is "Monterrey - #15723." I left the wheel on, just taped plastic around everything that I didn't want overspray on. The airbag was not sprayed. SEM can be purchased at any auto paint shop or Amazon. Directions here - http://www.vinylprosem.com/ or http://semproducts.com/?home=1

SEM is great for fixing a faded wheel, or for changing the color.

But it does not fix the flaking or peeling in the high-wear areas (the outer rim)

I sprayed my entire wheel with the Landau Black SEM. Then purchased this exact Black Leather Wrap from eBay.

It does thread on (literaly a needle and thread) and takes like an hour to do - LOL

I have now had it for a good 4-5months and it sits out in the direct sunlight all day. No issues or problems with it.

Best investment in my opinion.

Hey all, sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but I just bought a can of the SEM and plan on removing my wheel and giving it a coat.. okbobbo's wheel matched perfectly and I'm much impressed.

Now, should I put any clear coat or other protective over it when the leather paint is done drying? I would like it to last a NICE long time.

Does anyone have the SEM paint number that matches the light tan pieces? I got the one for the darker tan, but not this one.

I plan on gluing my seat trim and respraying those on both sides.

Anyone have the SEM paint number for the light tan parts? the closest I found was an SEM general motors one, but i think it might be a bit too yellow and not light tan enough.
