they probably aren't allowed (state emissions laws?).
don't punch the cats; the local metal salvage pays $50+ each for an intact cat.

I gutted mine. Just simply remove the rear mufflers and the hanger brackets. Then remove the 2 center bolts for the mid section, then remove the 3 bolts for each cat. You dont physically have to remove the cats to gut them. Just the pipes leading up to. If the car is elevated, the stuff (honeycomb) will fall right out. Make sure you get all of the material out of there, including the mesh material. When done gutting them replace the gaskets with new ones and reinstall everything. If you have a middle one, then that also can be done the same way or let a muffler shop handle it, due to the welding part.

theres a shop here(in m.o.) that pays $60.00 a piece for the front cats(not sure about the back one) but if you search around(espically in brooklyn) you should be able to find a shop that will pay you for them..

then "your guy" can weld straight pipes on, and keep the cats as payment.

my sis lived in Park Slope, nice area.

Captcrunch: just an FYI, you don't need to make a new thread everytime you have a question, try re-using one you already started.
people will answer your questions..............
