Default '92 SC400 Help??

Hey everyone, new memember here. I've been reading alot of topics in here over the past couple months and decided to join about a week ago. Anyway , I bought this sc for $2500, it runs good but i expect to find a few problems. Just wondering where I should start with an 18 year old car! The biggest problem I've noticed so far is the shaking of the car and gear shift when I get past 55mph, is that a wheel arm problem or tires or what? I'm not too good with cars but can put a computer together with my eyes close so this can't be rocket science!

How many miles?
I would check tires, wheel balance and front suspension for the shimmy, pretty much like any other car.

Possibly need to have the rear wheels re-balanced. Also do you have hub centric rings for those wheels?

Default Shaking

Have the flex coupling on the driveshaft checked for cracks or deteriorating.
It cured my shaking at 174,000 miles.

i picked up a 92 sc300 and it was in need of some bushings...mainly steering rack bushings that ive noticed right away but i can say with a car this old definitely expect to replace a few of these.

Go to a Discount tire or tire shop and have them re-balance the rear wheels. Make sure you don't have a bent rim. Or they can just see if they are out of balance. While they have the wheels off they can make sure you have hub centric rings. If you don't have them they can cause a viration if the wheels are not centered on the hubs properly. Another thing to ask them if you don't have the rings ask them if they have some in stock.

Thanks, I just got back from having them balanced and now it shakes in the front more than it did before i had that done so it may be the tires! i didn't see this in time to ask about the rings but I'm going to the rim shop tmrw so I'll do it then. Thanks again homey!

My mechanic bought it from the dealer. The drive shaft (also listed as the propeller shaft) has a flexible coupling or flexible joint at each end. The front connects to the transmission and the rear to the differential. The front coupling was shot. Can't help you with a part number.

He also found a broken transmission mount which he replaced.

Coupling - $230 Trans mount - $89

Good luck, persevere and you will be rewarded with a nice ride.
