Fixed its wagon Wasn't going to bed with this goin down so out to the shop to figure it out. Got the basted out. The snap ring must not have been seated properly from the factory letting the innards escape. Put it back together and bench tested it ok. Something to check BEFORE installation. I did fire it up to make sure it runs, so I am ok there. Now to finish bolting in the clutch pedal and bleed it. Then I get to test it.

It moves. Got everything in and set up. Test drive 1st impressions. It is louder than the auto box. It is a more fun to drive. I have not owned a stick for some time, like 20 years, and going back puts a smile on my face.
1. Used this great jack to put in the diff. Way easy. Put it in the perfect spot first time every time.
2. Used this stuff to make a cover for the tranny hump hole.
3. This is the shape.
4. Installed.
It fit tight and should keep out the weather.

1. The shifter
2. I lowered the car tires onto some pieces of 2x8 so I could easily slip out the floor jack.

Some issues. The OD Off light is flashing. I will try to find out where it is and bridge the connector. I have a little ticking when idling with the clutch out. It is not there all the time and seems to be getting better with use. Have some transmission whine and it is non existent in 4th as others here have experienced. I am going to try a different fluid on Monday.

I have a question for those who have done the swap. Did you take out the spacer between the starter ring gear and the engine? And does it matter? I did not.

You are supposed to. however the howe spacer has just enough play in it to allow that spacer to be there, for safety reasons because even though on the how-to a lot of people miss it. So unless your clutch is slipping then you have no reason to worry about it being there.

Congrats man! I have that same whine... i got used to it, but it sucks. let me know if you can find a fluid that fixes it or quiets it.. Mobil 1 and GM syncomesh havent done anything.

I pulled my OD light, that was my fix lol.

I was thinking about pulling my light, but I have a challenge from my buddy who has his own mechanics shop. Instead of him showing me how to fix the electrical gremlins like the blinking OD, reverse lights and cruise control, he has put it on me to read the wiring diagrams and figure out what to do. He is going to let me know if anything I do will cause any shorts etc, but he figures its time for me to learn the electrical stuff.
I will post up what I find.
Thanks for doing such a great write up in The ultimate 1uzfe W58 conversion thread. Made all the difference. Funny thing is that I could now remove and replace the manual tranny in about 3.5 hours I am sure. If I cannot get rid of the whine with different oils I may be looking into replacing the bearings in the tranny and doing a rebuild. Seems the common thread is that we are all using used trannys from what I can see, and some wear is inevitable. Especially that we can only go on someone's word with respect to the milage and kind of use the thing has gone through. I don't like extra noise much.

Mine whines too, like a little baby. I thought it was cool for a week. lol. What can I expect, though. My trans. only cost $200.

Seems the more I drive it the less noise I am getting, Hmm, maybe needed some lubrication.
