New Black Carpet for less than $100? Elbow Grease Needed...
So I got sick and tired of looking for a pristine black carpet for car. If I did find something decent enough, it was close to $300. I said to hell with this, and why not just get some new carpet. The more I researched the more I found out how inexpensive it is. So I picked up 3 linear yards from fleabay, and got to it!
Basically there are two types difference ways you can get this carpet: with or without a latex backing. This backing makes the carpet more rigid, but at the same time it makes it harder to contour to the different angles of the floor. So i started thinking, why not get the carpet without the backing and just glue that to my original carpet? It would make installation a lot easier and since my carpet was clean and didnt smell or anything, I didnt see a downside to it, so thats when I got started.
All that was needed was the carpet and about 2 cans of the 3M spray adhesive which is about 12 bux a can. The carpet was ~75 shipped to my door......
On the the pics:
Before:
Removed everything, and getting it cleaned up to get rdy for the new stuff!
Started laying it out
Everything back in
I will say....i'm pretty damn happy how it came out. I'm still in the middle of the black interior swap and have a couple of other things in store as far as suede goes, but I can say that it does take a while to do, but as you can see its well worth it.
Sorry for crappy pix, taken with cell phone (htc incredible)

I've seen this done before and I have to say, while it does look pretty good indeed, in time, it can cause cause some potential problems in a few areas primarily due to the added thickness of the additional carpet. The trim along the door threshold tends to bulge in time and causes the fit to the lower rear interior trim and the front footwell to gape. Also, the seatbelt attachments between the seats and the tranny tunnel get can get bound up a bit. Aftermarket seat slides may bind up too. Just things to consider.

Only time will tell, but to be quite honest, the floor carpet is covered by so many things that even if there were issues, you probably wouldn't even see them....
