What are the cons of doing this? Obviously Lexus put it there for a reason. I've been considering this, but hesitate to take a firewall out of my car. I'm assuming it'll weaken the chassis?

i tested them before i pulled it before pulling it back out, it suited my need quite nicely on a aftermarket 500 watt amp. the sub can handle more but i was going for crispness from the factory hole

It's supposedly is there for protection from the gas tank leaking if you were to get rear ended. I found a huge topic back when I researching SC's about a year ago, but I can't find it anywhere. That's the only answer I was able to find.

I've got my back seat out and I'm trying to get that sheet of metal out right now. This thing is IMPOSSIBLE to take out. I've tried hammers, screwdrivers, pulling with my hands, and it still won't come out. I've got the 4 nuts off of it, but it still won't budge. Any tips on getting this thing out?

Edit: Nevermind. After an hour of pulling on it with the back end of a hammer, I got it off. The bass sounds so much better.

3- Bass is non- directional. Ever wonder why you hear people "Bumping" from a distance? It doesn't really matter where the sub is located so having it right behind you or in the trunk will not make a difference. As long as you remove the partition behind the back seat and take out the stock sub, It will sound the same if not better. Also having a w7 blasting next to my ear probably isn't the smartest thing to do..

just my 2 cents....
alright if u down load the Enclosure Specifications
Net volumes given below do not include the air volume displaced by
the speaker (Driver Displacement). This value must be added to the
net volume along with the displacement of any braces and/or ports (if
applicable) to arrive at a gross internal volume. Air inside a port is not part
of the effective net volume. Calculate ports as solid, not hollow objects.
The dimensions given for the enclosure examples below take all applicable
displacements into consideration
PORTED ENCLOSURE:
Recommended Net Volume: 1.75 cu. ft. (51.54 ltrs.)
Recommended Port Tuning: 32 Hz
Port Type: “Slot” ports are recommended. See information above.
The port recommendations listed above are derived through actual
tests and measurements (not computer simulations).
Front Baffle Thickness: 1 in. (25 mm)
Wall Thickness: 0.75 in. (19 mm)
Slot Length
24.0 in.
(610 mm)
Slot Width
1.75 in.
(44 mm)

External Depth
15.5 in.
(394 mm

External Height

(394 mm)

Slot Height

(356 mm)

and thats the size of my box i never said biger is better an u will see a stock lookim builin a face plate for it to hide the amp wires ect and adding a few things

also had this setup in my old car and it was a 4door and the sub was in the trunk and its way better in the back seat in the lex cuz no trunk shaking and it sounds like a hatch would if u had subs in a hatch.

over all sounds better in the lex then it did in my old bmw

thx for ur input ill post pics soon when i finish the faceplace and wrap it in tan swade

Solved my problem. Built a small enclosure inside the spare tire wheel. Put tons of sound deadening. Now I just need to buy a nice speaker grille for it.

What's great is that I still maintain my spare tire.

It's kind of late so I will put the finishing touches on it tomorrow. So far sounds good, but I will make it sound better soon.

My ID10 is hooked up to an old school PPI A300 and sounds pretty good. I've always used sealed boxes and I was honestly surprised how good the ID10 sounds in a free air config.

After seeing this thread im more motivated in putting a system in. I never did free air in any of my cars before though

Can you put the grill back on? What about if I have a rear deck taillamp on mine?
No other cutting or modding, just have to reuse the stock sub ring. An IDQ10 should clear just fine but I called ID and I was told that for free air use, an ID10 would actually be better than an IDQ10. I leave the stock grill on, but it just rests on top, i don't push it all the way down to clip it back into place.

I like that setup. How difficult was it to install that sound deadening?

It’s funny that this thread popped back up. I feel so old.

Not very difficult after watching YT videos from others who have already taken on the task. Fell free to visit my build page for link to my YT channel. I'll be posting an in depth video on it soon!
