What are the cons of doing this? Obviously Lexus put it there for a reason. I've been considering this, but hesitate to take a firewall out of my car. I'm assuming it'll weaken the chassis?

i tested them before i pulled it before pulling it back out, it suited my need quite nicely on a aftermarket 500 watt amp. the sub can handle more but i was going for crispness from the factory hole

I've got my back seat out and I'm trying to get that sheet of metal out right now. This thing is IMPOSSIBLE to take out. I've tried hammers, screwdrivers, pulling with my hands, and it still won't come out. I've got the 4 nuts off of it, but it still won't budge. Any tips on getting this thing out?
Edit: Nevermind. After an hour of pulling on it with the back end of a hammer, I got it off. The bass sounds so much better.

Three things wrong with your statement.
1- how in Christ's name are you going to make a big-*** box in your backseat look stock.
2- JL recommends a 15*15*15.5 sealed enclosure adding up to 1.325 cubic feet. It's not one of those "the bigger the better" ordeals like you claim, its simply math. In addition a bandpass/ported box sounds way to muddy and defeats the purpose of an acoustically accurate sub like a W7.
3- Bass is non- directional. Ever wonder why you hear people "Bumping" from a distance? It doesn't really matter where the sub is located so having it right behind you or in the trunk will not make a difference. As long as you remove the partition behind the back seat and take out the stock sub, It will sound the same if not better. Also having a w7 blasting next to my ear probably isn't the smartest thing to do..

the speaker (Driver Displacement). This value must be added to the
net volume along with the displacement of any braces and/or ports (if

and thats the size of my box i never said biger is better an u will see a stock lookim builin a face plate for it to hide the amp wires ect and adding a few things
also had this setup in my old car and it was a 4door and the sub was in the trunk and its way better in the back seat in the lex cuz no trunk shaking and it sounds like a hatch would if u had subs in a hatch.
over all sounds better in the lex then it did in my old bmw

Solved my problem. Built a small enclosure inside the spare tire wheel. Put tons of sound deadening. Now I just need to buy a nice speaker grille for it.
What's great is that I still maintain my spare tire.
It's kind of late so I will put the finishing touches on it tomorrow. So far sounds good, but I will make it sound better soon.

i have a 12 type r alpine sub, 2 alpine amps, and alpine speakers...i know the trunk is a bit messy i have to redo it so i can hide the wires better i was just in a rush and never got around to it

thats pretty bad ***. Did you have to do any other cutting or modding besides the stock sub ring? It clears the gas tank? I wonder if a idq10 would clear it.
After seeing this thread im more motivated in putting a system in. I never did free air in any of my cars before though
Can you put the grill back on? What about if I have a rear deck taillamp on mine?
