Default Chipped key

So i lost my transponder today and got stranded at work i will be picking up a new one but would like to know if there is a way i can reprogram this myself or am i going to have to go to lexus my car is a 99. I know at nissan we need to unlock the body control module and with our consult program and just cycle the keys takes 5mins if that. But hoping lexus doest require this.

Not sure about doing it yourself, but you can have almost any mobile locksmith cut you a new key or program one for you.

I spent $130 for 2 new ones for a Neon a few years back.

I don't think any locksmiths in my area would have the right tools to give me a copy of my key, even if I provided the blanks. Is it common for locksmiths to do this in most areas? I thought if I wanted any spare keys I would be forced to go to Lexus. Mine's a 97 300, by the way.

FOR CARS WHERE YOU WANT TO CREATE A SPARE KEY:
Before starting, press and release the Brake and Accelerator pedals at the same time.
1. Place an already programmed Master key in the keyway (Do not turn on)
2. Press the Gas pedal 5 times.
3. Press the Brake pedal 6 times.
4. Pull out the key.
5. Insert the new key but DO NOT turn it on.
6. Press the Gas pedal just 1 time and wait until the security light stops blinking (about 1 minute).
7. Remove the key and press the Brake pdeal 1 time. The cycle is now closed.
The programming mode will end after 10 more seconds.

i did this last month, it worked for my 98 sc300

I worked for a dealer for 5 years so I knew the guys around town that could do it. That $130 price I mentioned was for 2 keys, at my cost.
