PLEASE HELP: Soon to be SC400 Owner.
Hey there all.
I am very new to this forum. I have been in the market for a SC400 for some time now. From what I have read, I have gotten the impression that I really dont have to worry to much about the car even if it has over 100K miles. I have 95% decided that I am going to buy this guys 1993 SC400. We have negotiated the price to $10,500. It has 103,500 miles on it, is in relatively decent condition for being as old as it is, The air conditioning is still blowing cool air, and the dash lights are all on , (except the needles). the car runs pretty smooth, but it needs a slight alignment.
The dealership says to look out and be prepared for a timing belt, possible steering pump, possible air-con outage, etc.
Im getting it checked out by the dealership before I buy it, but I thought I would as you guys, the experts what you thought?
Is a 1993 for 10,500 an ok price to pay?
is the black paint very difficult to buff out the fine line scratches?
should I be worried about the air conditioning going out?
When does the timing belt have to be replaced?
It revs at about 3200 rpm at 80 mph ( is this high? )
when do the shocks have to be replaced? When I ride over the little speed buttons on the freeway, its isnt as supple as I thought a lexus would be.
I REALLY appreciate any and ALL of the advice you can offer.
I already have a nice car, so this is going to be my day to day car, but I dont want to have to sink in a lot of money on going. I plan on putting about 25K miles on it a year.

Timing belt should have been changed at 90k. It's expensive, I think around 500$ to get done at the dealership. Feel the top of the alternator, do you feel any 'gunk'? If you do then the power steering pump is leaking onto it. 150$ to rebuild alternator and anywhere from 200-600$ for the power steering pump. I had my power steering pump checked at the dealership and they said it was fine - they were wrong.
Check to make sure that the 60k and 90k services were done.
Try playing CDs in the cd changer (if equipped with one). The CD changer is an expensive problem for these cars.
