Default How to get rid of Low Coolant cluster indicator?

As of late, after about 10-30 min of driving the yellow "bird cage" looking indicator appears on my dash. This usually indicates low coolant. Well, I've topped off the overflow a couple of times since, and it still comes on periodically.

How do you properly top off the coolant in an SC400? I don't think there is a way to fill up the radiator directly, is there? Is it necessary to do a complete flush? Could I top it off through the bolt at the end of the hose that goes into the engine?

Oh, and there's definitely no leak..

Thanks

Since you have stated it has come on a few times and no leak, I would recommend a proper flush. When was the last time you had it flushed? What is the temp gauge reading? You have hot HEAT? I would flush it through the bolt on top of the engine with the front of the car on jack stands on the highest notch. This will ensure a faster bleed without any air. Once this is done and no more air or bubbles is coming out, with the top hose very hot, shut it off and place the bolt back in place. Then top off the overflow container. Let us know how it goes.

The car has never gotten hot (never past that half way point) but if a full flush can't be avoided then I'll probably just do a completely flush to get rid of it. I just wanted to check if there was a simple solution first.

have you turned on your heater full blast with the radiator cap off? Should suck down a bunch of coolant and get the air out of the system by watching the coolant at the neck. Wait to see if the bubbles stop. .02

Your coolant sensor needs replacing.

That was my next step was to check the sensor on the overflow container. I do know that some have them and some do not.

I tried this but I was looking into the overflow. Is the "neck" that bolt where the hose and engine meet?

How would go about checking if the sensor is the problem? Specifically for an sc400? (I'm searching right now, too) Oh, and my heater IS pretty weak right now..

Thanks,

that's usually the culprit. It isn't expensive either. I had the same problem before, and with age of the sensor, you can't avoid it.

replace the sensor or pull the bulb out of the cluster. whichever is easier for you.

Is it that much different on a 8cyl.? I was talking about the top of the radiator where you fill it. I have a 300. Usually you can get all the air out that way by turning the heater on full blast with the cap off.

That's what threw me off; unless I'm missing something, I don't think SC400s have a removable cap on the radiator where you can add coolant..

Can someone confirm this?
