Lightbulb Painting Tail Lights

Hey guys,, I remember people were talking earlier about getting the older taillights painted in smoke color. I'm think about painting my taillights. With the top half smoked and the bottom blacked out. I did a photoshop of what it could potentially look like. The SC i used in the picture might belong to someone here,, i just used it because i didnt have any pics of mine and it looked similar. So i hope its ok w/ the owner if that's even an issue. But anyways, here it is, what do you think???

Heres where you can get the smoke lens spray paint. Not sure if you can use black since that would block out your brake lights and might be considered illegal. http://209.87.151.155/search_results...l=1&subcat=ALL

I didn't even look at the previous link, but if you're looking to black out your lenses, the product is called "Nite Shades" it comes in a 10 oz aerosal spray; kinda like spray paint. I've used it in the past, and the secret is to completly clean the lens w/ alcohol, then apply MANY light coats - like 8, as opposed to 1 or 2 heavy coats.

Yeah Keith, i heard the same thing about blacking out your lights. If you make sure its clean first and then repeatedly apply even strokes from about two feet away it should come out nicely. So im thinking that the entire process would be tedious but not extremely difficult. It was also give a "one of a kind" kinda look But I keep thinking to myself that I just made that picture up in photoshop & it can't possibly look that nice in real life (probly because i've never actually seen it done to an SC) but hopefully I can prove myself wrong!

Hey Johnny,

I'm going to do the Candy Apple Red color to my rear taillights. I'll post pictures after I have them completed.

I might have them professionally done by a local bodyshop, I don't know yet...

But I'll be sure to post the pictures!

Hey Tony, "Candle Apple Red",, sounds very classy! So are you going to paint the entire light red (over the red the amber & the backup lights??) If you ask me, I think that you should try to do it yourself. But then again I'm only saying that because I want someone to talk to who was performed the procedure to help me out w/ it! But I do seriously hope that it comes out nicely and I am looking forward to seeing how it looks.

I think it looks GREAT! I remember on the old ezboard i did a photoshop mock up and i was getting ragged on for even considering it! I have a black SC with 95-96 style lights. Since the top is red I thought that painting the bottom part black would look *evil* (that's the eventual look im going for). I think that any solid color would look great.

I did to a quick half assed job on blacking out the bottom (not with a paint though)... and yes, it looked quite evil The reason I didn't get the paint is because autodynamic took some 3 months to inform me that my order was going to be delayed because they were out of stock

go for it, but do a good job

that "candy apple red" color should be EXACTLY the same color as the stock color red. i saw it in person on a SC and they look awesome all red..... but then again..... you gotta use the right amount of paint with NO overspray. good luck everyone!
