SC-4's quest for speed

Frankley I've looked everywhere for giving my SC-4 the true power it deserves. Yet I am still stuck on the fact whether I should wait for the turbo's that the people speak of in this forum or just supercharge my SC-4 and get 100-shot NoS...I dunno but I've been waiting for 3 months and im kind of anxious. I need some opinions because im not sure what to do anymore...also a price estimate of the turbo'ing of the SC-4 and supercharging a SC-4 /w NoS...I dunno...sigh

Thanx To you all

all depends on how much u can wait, and if u think the wait will be worth it in the end, I mean no one even knows for sure if someone is gonna develop a Turbo and if they do, it'll probably cost an arm and a leg, Supercharging will probably be alot easier

Must've been a pain strapping an F16 jet engine to that GS....

guys,

Whoever worked on the engine for the first generation SC's should be SHOOT. How can a V8, 32 valve, dual cam and ONLY produce approx 250HP. Whats wrong with this picture!!!

Not to mention its a heavy and well designed car but the engine lacks power.

Who many people agree or disagree with this?????

Back in 1991, 250hp and 260tq was a lot of power. If you put some electronics on it (VVTi), you'll get 290hps. Adjust ECU with more aggresive fuel map, another couple dozen hps. Maybe do something about the four mufflers and three cats, and you'll gain even more hps. It's not the engine, the engine is an awesome one. It's all the restrictive junk around it that makes this car slow. The tranny sucks balls too. It's detuned for smoothness of ride with some unpredictable shift points. Same with the torque convertor. Fix all this crap around it and it's as powerful as the rest of today's fervorously high horsepower sports cars.

Oh BTW, Toyota spent over $100,000,000 developing this engine. Money well spent, IMO.

it'll also handle a lot of power; its more beefy than ANY american V8 i can assure you

ECU

I always thought the answer to bringing the "pre vvti " SC400/Soarer V8 towards 'modern' day performance cars was to modify the ECU.

Preferably with a management unit that can be tuned for each car.

Surely thats the first step before turbo'ing or supercharging the car? I'd hate to spend upwards of $5000 on either and loose 30%(?) of performance gains to the transmission.......

It can be done. We have the proof of the MiNes unit that modifies the change points for the gear box and increases the rev limiter to 7000rpm(7500rpm?) as well as fuel mapping.

Is there no one in the US working on the ECU, apart from the offering from sc400.com ?

There must be a market for a tuneable management unit that allows modifying of the ECT and ECU, after all there are around 40,000 SC400's in the US? Wouldn't something like that also meet the requirements of all owners? From those who just want a little extra power to those who are taking their cars into the 'wild blue yonder'.......

My presumption is that the unit would also work on the LS400, wouldn't that increase the potential market size?
