I just replaced a leaking power steering pump and bad rack on a 95 SC400. In the process I flushed the system, cleaned the solenoid screen, added a filter and removed/disassembled the reservoir to properly clean the internal filter. The filters were both nearly clogged. After everything was completed I attempted to bleed the system. For some reason I cannot seem to get all of the air out. I have cycled the wheels lock to lock several times on several different occasions to no avail.
I don't have any leaks in the system that I can see. Could the reservoir allow the pump to suck in air? I am wondering if I did not get a good seal when I re-attached the lid onto the reservoir body. Does anyone know if that can cause the pump to suck in air? Thanks for all the help.

 

You must be low on fluid that or the air isn't rising fast enough to keep the pump from whining. I used a turkey baster and go lock to lock then turn the car off and suck the fluid out. Fill it to the top so if it does take more fluid you should be fine and it won't suck in air. After sucking the fluid out with the turkey baster 2 times the noise went away. You could have a possible blockage from old dirt in the lines causing a restriction. See if that takes care of it.

 

ON my 1992, I had the same problem, and I found that if you bleed the system with weight on the front tires, and not in the air, it bleeds faster and quicker. I dont know if that would help, but I figure you are willing to try anything right now. Take the advice also from the above statement.

 

The bleeding process takes some time, whatever u do be sure not to let the reservoir run dry. It took me about an hour of locking out the wheel left and right with the car in the air to get all the air out of the system. Good luck
