Wink SC400 headers anyone?

I am going to see if I can get some custom headers made for the SC400. Since there are two of them in our cars the prices quited to me are around $1200. If we group buy the price can be reduced. I am trying to find the overall interest in the product. The cost is this price since the parts would be Tig welded. If we want them cast it would take 50 people to order and cost around $1500 each so welding sounds good.

And...give some feedback.

$1200 sounds a bit rich.... even though its custom fab.... how many people would you need for them to drop the price a bit.?

I can tell you that the gains would be minimal on a basically stock SC4, the oe headers are actually very decent, and you can have a set made for less than what you were quoted, contact Kooks. Or, there are two manufacturers of headers in AU, if ya wanna import 'em, Tex's and Powertech. hellasboy can help you out there, he's got a set. Just some more info for ya sista.

But wouldn't these minimal gains become larger as we went FI?

Yes but that's true of anything else attached to the powertrain. When your engine starts churning out major power, everything else becomes a bottleneck. I think intake, ECU, and exhaust would create more power than $1500 headers for the money. When you say "$1500 each", does that mean $3000 for a pair of headers?

No not $1500 each but for the molded pair. Plus I do not thnik we will get enogh people for the molded pair. I asked someone who said it would cost up to $70,000 to create the mold for the headers. Thats why I am looking at Tig welded ones.

I was browsing through the summit racing catalog and noticed that they have a header kit. It requires that you weld on all the flanges and the collector but for a V8 its only 250 bucks! if we can take it to a decent welder and do a group thing we may be able to get these things done for 500 bucks! buy the headers for 250 and 250 for wellding and install.

Aside from the insane amount of effort required to install it, you (hermosa) could get sent to a CARB inspection station if it means the pre-cats get removed.

Question

question then since yall talking about headers and stuff, what would be the advantage of reducing the temperature on the surface of the exhaust manifold??? if so, would be a good choice to just have the OEM professionaly ceramic coated??? just wondering..
