Hey everybody, I got a quick question for you. I had my car for about 6 months now and have had problems with the rear brakes 2 times. I hate the rotor/pad/shoes thing. But I guess it makes some sort of sense.....but none the less. I never use the parking brake, could I just remove the shoes and everything from the car until I fix the problem or do you think it would cause more problems.

1. The SC came 4 wheel disk brakes, ie No Shoes. You have pads all around.
2. Even though the rear brakes only account for about 10% of total stopping power, it's usually not wise to roll without them. Unless the system is shot, spend the extra little cash and fix the rear brakes. Don't let a small problem escalate to a larger one.

 

You're going to need to practice stopping with this guy.

 

he's talkin about the rear shoes that go to the e-brake inside of the rotor assy of the rear brakes. wow not sure if you can delete them though it prob can work but I dont think it would be a good idea

 

If you really want to you can remove the shoes/parking brake assembly, it will not cause any problems. Well, other than not having a parking brake anymore...

What kind of problems are you having with your brakes?

 

I have problems with the read rotors getting groves. I replaced the rotors and the pads before within the 6 months i had it. To tell you the truth, when I was repairing some wheel studs the other day and some spring and retainer looking stuff just completely fell out of the hub assembly. I have somewhere to go today and the brake hardware parts I ordered wont be in for another couple of days. I have had about 15 other cars and can use the e brake for stopping and "other things"(lol), but even before I read about this being a parking brake, i tried to stop with it when it was working properly and it really didnt work that well. So do yall think I could make it a few days with out it?

 

I don't recommend running without ur parking brake. But it would probably work out fine.

For educational purposes only:

If you removed the shoes, levers, springs, and etc the normal hydraulic brakes should work fine. Be sure to secure or remove EVERYTHING under the rotor so it cant bind the system or cause wear. You can prolly secure the cable with zip ties but id take everything else out.

To get an inspection sticker you will need a parking brake. So just remember to install the brake again b4 trying to get ur sticker.

 

i removed my parking brake on my jeep (four way disks) and everything works fine, after i removed the actuator lever that destroyed my wheel speed sensor lol

 

Where I live, they dont check brakes and things for inspection. Just lights and horn or whatever. I took the brakes off the other day and its been raining ever since. Im going to put the parking brake stuff back on when it stops. Thanks for the advise yall.
