Tavarish's ongoing paint thread...bodywork and cool stuff inside!!!

So I pulled the trigger on renting a paint booth and buying a paint kit for my car. I'll be doing that in a week or so. In preparation, I'm trying to smooth out every dent and make the car look pristine (well, at least presentable), which is no easy feat as the car wasn't in such great condition when I got it.

There was cracked bondo and dented metal on almost every panel of the car.

Here a few pictures illustrating where I am:

Smoothed quarter panel after pulling out lots of little dents:

Shaved washer nozzle holes on hood:

Sanded down and filled in some cracked bondo where there was a crappy patch job with the previous owner:

Another:

Shaved antenna hole:

Painted the chrome trim around the doors flat black (looks much better IMO)

Finished product:

I used filler primer, Rustoleum semi-gloss, and some truck clear coat. It's pretty durable and it's smooth. Plus it doesn't give that awful bling bling look that the chrome trim has. It should've been this way from the factory.

That's all for today, I'll update more as I go along.

Thanks,
-Freddy

The front is shaved, i'm gonna leave the "L" in the back, and that's it.

I used some rustoleum filler primer, rustoleum semi-gloss black protective enamel, and some Duplicolor truck clear coat.

Are you going to relocate the washer nozzles or live without them?

GZZ-TT Jul 25, 2009 07:22 PM

Because he wanted to.

LEX_MAN Jul 25, 2009 07:26 PM

You should have left the trim off, untill you finnish paining the car.

I'm going to use G35 wiper arms, which have an integrated washer nozzle. Plus I like subtle changes in body shape. This is simple and different.

I'll just mask it off anyway, no biggie. I'm not gonna paint the door jambs since the color pretty much matches the OEM that the car came with.

the car looks great with the blacked out trim. Looks like you have quite some work ahead of you, I can't wait to see the finished project, something about the black and red combo.
