Default Any successful steering wheel transplants?

Just wondering if any one has used the steering wheel off an RX300 or newer SC? Would the airbag wires and steering wheel controls hook up?

doesnt that suck that you cant put a 98+ 3 spoke wooden steering wheel on a 92-97 sc? You cant because of the airbag and you cant do the shifter because of the overdrive button and the gears. the 98 shifter is a metal pole that goes in and out of a little tree, and the other models just go up and down.

Default I am going to try

I am not going for the 4 spoke to 3 spoke look . I am more interested in the wood aspect of it. My dad's ES300 has a wood wheel and I want it in my 97 SC300. I think it would look good. My cousin says it will work with no problems. I guess I will know in about a month when I get to drive to Dallas.

Well any wood steering wheel can have wood added to it...the right way...make it look "factory"...William Rau does such work and *I think* it's only $700. This isn't some half-@ss company either, this is quality, hand done work...they do SERIOUS wood work for cars that cost 10X as much as even a new Lexus...

Also, TRD has a 3-spoke steering wheel. I don't know if it fits, but it does have an airbag...work in Supras FOR SURE. If anyone knows if a Supra steering wheel and a SC steering wheel is interchangable, please let us know...there is NO wood in the TRD steering wheel though!

Okay, I spoke with my pal Sean @ TRD at the Long Beach Grand Prix about this very thing for my '97- they have a really sweet three-spoke wheel (carbon fiber & leather with airbag) in their Sequoia show truck (with 20" HREs and StopTech brakes!).

He's pretty sure it'll interchange with the early SCs- he's out of town this week, but I'll follow-up with him next week. We may just order one & try it out- but since TRD is basically Toyota, we're sure one of the Japanese engineers could tell us with some certainty.

I'll keep you all posted- looks like I'll be the test dummy!

Hey guys, if you guys are interested in having your existing steering wheel coverted to wood (real wood) and having the leather redone by American Stitches, I am working on a group buy deal with them. I will post a thread soon...please stand by...

SoCal - Please find out. I have been considering doing the TRD steering and being a test dummy also.... Did you get my voicemail?

With the Amercian Stitches group buy, it'll cost less than $400 and members who have already had it done are quite satisfied...but William Rau does do excellent work...

Default 400 bucks

Does te 400 include leather and wood addition to the steering wheel??

If so That's a hell of a deal.

Any pics of the finished wheel.. How close does the wood match the stock pieces in a old SC4?

THanks,
Scott

But you need to send in your wheel? Some people might have a problem as they might only have one car... is there a way some people could get a stock wheel replacement? My wheel is factory wood, im just lookin out for other people.

Thanks for the info. 400 is a great price

I'm in on the group buy if (I think my conserns are just like everyone else):

The leather color matches the wheel - seen a few jobs that have a pretty big contrast.

Same question on the wood color.

We can work out something easy on the steering wheel swap program they have - i.e. I don't have to be without my wheel long and I have something in-between.

Thanks,
Ryan
