Default Rate my BFI!!

Made it yesterday with:
-duck-tape
-hacksaw
-scissors
-cardboard

Basically I cut the box open, just leaving the left hand edge on to sort of help funnel the air in.

Then I cut the scoop in front of the radiator. The screws holding the shroud in place wouldn't come out so I just cut it with the hacksaw. The opening turned out about 7" wide.

After that I made the top cover, tray under the headlight, and sides out of cardboard, and then covered them in duck-tape for water proofing.

Finally I sealed the whole thing with duck-tape, every opening I could find except under the airbox. But I did lay duck-tape from the opining in the box to the tray under the headlight to try and help direct flow into there.

PICS:

View from inside air filter box looking under the headlight

From the opposite side, looking at the under headlight tray from the drivers side

Better Angle, you can see i tried to cover any cracks where air might escape, and also smooth out the flow of air with duck-tape

Where Air actually enters the system

Front shot, It's not noticible at all unless you know what to look for. I like it Also, can anyone tell me what that sensor is for?

I'm going to make a nice black plastic top cover with rubber seals
but what exactly can I do to improve the design? I might be able to seal the area between the headlight and the air-box but that probably wouldn't help to much. suggestions?

I say a 4/10. Good effort, but cardboard and duct tape are just going to deteriorate over time. I would have gotten some ABS plastic and cut it to the shape you want.

yeah, i think the bfi gave a few extra ponies (noticeable ones)
qwkSC, ill take some pics of how i did mine, well doesn't look stock since i gave it a nice carbon fiber overlay on it, but when looked at from the engine bay, it looks like an aftermarket part. Just dont ghettofy it. Give it a nice template, use no ductape and seal it up with some weather/heat proof wrap.

this is pretty much a pic of what i have (sorry, its the best pic i got right now) but now it is covered with a layer of cabon fiber.
here are a couple more

I'd be concerned about the effects of heat, but it may be far enough away from the engine to worry about.

Rather have a slow car than some Macgyverism like that under the hood.
Looks like some A/C vent patch job. Oh and have fun removing the adhesive from the paint after it gets old.
