They're putting BMW's B58 into the Supra now, so no.

Welcome to our forum, there is an overwhelming wealth of knowledge to be found here if you are willing to look around. To answer your question, yes & no. The 2JZ-GE non-turbo engine is in both the SC300 & non-turbo Supra. The 2JZ-GTE turbo version is only found in the Supra. The Toyota Soarer, JDM version of the SC300, came w/ a 1JZ-GTE turbo engine not availible in the Lexus.

Yes, it’s the same engine that‘s in the non-turbo MKIV Supra, as well as the first generation Lexus IS300 and first two generations of the Lexus GS300.

New Supras have the BMW B58.

Craigmont, as others above have suggested it is best to search in our forums, Google or read basically any articles you wish to on the history of the 2JZ-GE, 2JZ-GTE and 1JZ-GTE engines and their various early-type non-VVT-i and later-type VVT-i versions.

ALL SC300's and the first two generations of the GS300's as well as 2001-2005 IS300's come with the same engine found in 1993-2002 Supra MKIV Non-Turbo models... the 2JZ-GE. For model year 1998 and up these 2JZ-GE engines became upgraded with VVT-i amongst other changes.

There is a huge wealth of knowledge about these engines and how to do all kinds of various setups at different power levels with them. The "GTE" variants came turbocharged from the factory while all "GE" variants did not.

The 1992-1997 "GE" variants have the same super strong iron block, strong forged crankshaft, strong connecting rods and strong pistons as the GTE variants but with a higher stock compression ratio using a different cylinder head and thinner head gasket. 1998+ variants still use the same super strong engine blocks and crankshafts but require upgrading to the stronger type NA/GTE factory rods or aftermarket rods and pistons have the same strength (very common upgrade when turbocharging the VVT-i "GE" engines).

There is much more to it all but think of it this way: Toyota designed a family of extremely strong and versatile high performance inline-six engines which saw several versions spread out over many of their models from about 1989-2007 or so (Japan and worldwide markets). They were designed FIRST as extremely tough turbocharged engine architectures and THEN the naturally aspirated variants were developed from that basis. That is why the Toyota JZ engine series is known so well in the car enthusiast world.

...

As for the current generation co-developed BMW platform based Supra MKV's those cars do not use any Toyota JZ engine or any Toyota engine at all. Those cars use tweaked versions of the BMW B58 (Inline-six turbo) and B48 (Inline-four turbo) engines.

Specifically with the straight six Supra MKV 3.0's they use either the 335whp B58C (single turbo with integrated exhaust manifold cylinder head) or the 382whp B58D (single turbo with traditional 6-port exhaust cylinder head and a bolt-on turbo exhaust manifold) both bolted exclusively to ZF8-8HP 8 speed automatic transmissions.

Those BMW B58x engines are completely unrelated to the Toyota JZ engines found in many 1990's Toyota and Lexus models. No one swaps them into these older cars both due to the extreme architecture differences and also because... well... the Supra MKIV, SC300/400/Soarer, GS300/Aristo, IS300/Altezza and the JDM Cresta/Mark II/Chaser sedans, Verossa sedan, etc. all came designed for the 1JZ or 2JZ from the factory. And many other vintage Toyotas and even other makes have kits now that enable 1JZ or 2JZ engines to be installed into them as well.

Thanks. I think this explanation explains every aspect.

I am still learning about it. Just recently acquired the SC 300 and can attest, it runs and corners well at high speeds.

Was wondering about the history of the 2JZ-GE, and this gives me excellent insight.

The Vehicle has only 142,000 miles, so for the age, it seems to still have considerable power.

So like I say, still learning about it......any other tidbits or history on this model, from anyone, .....is appreciated.
