Default When I click ECT Power...

I can't tell the difference. All I see is that ECT light up on the dash. I don't notice any change in RPM or engine sound. Is this normal?

no, ideally when the ETC is set to power and you floor it, it should go to red line before it shifts. When its turned of or normal it shifts at a lower rpm.

i posted a thread on the same issue w/ my ect. I didn't noticed it either but i realized now that the only way u can tell it's working is when u floor it. If ur driving moderately u wont be able to tell the difference b/w normal and ect mode.

If I keep ECT power on all the time, will it hurt my gas mileage?

You guys only see different under WOT??? At half throttle, I get far higher shifts (500-1K rpm) in POWER mode than in NORMAL mode. It also is easier to drive in stop/go traffic. Yes, it affects your gas mileage somewhat if you drive it stop and go a lot.

joelchicago,

I agree with you. I can also feel the difference in the stop and go traffic, while using 1/4 to 1/2 throttle.

Hey 98+ owners, you guys have a SNOW setting on your ECT. Any ideas on how that mode differs from NORMAL and PWR? I'm guessing more torquey low end? I've thought about buying a 98+ and just curious about that extra feature.

ECt does make a difference, especially in the 50-80mph range. The engine RPMS stay higher and of course when you punch it i downshifts faster and revs higher.

With early model trannies, the ECT on PWR mode will only use 3 gears instead of all 4. And with ECT on PWR mode and in the 50-80 MPH range, it better not downshift when you hit the gas, if it does downshift, it will downshift to 2nd, well into the red RPM range.

cupete,
When you say "early models", are you talking pre-95 or pre-98?

According to edmunds.com '98 SC400 was first equipped with the automatic 5 speed tranny. And surprisingly, 2000 SC300 has automatic 4 speed tranny? What the? Is this true guys that there is no automatic 5 speed tranny for SC300? Also, you can't get manual tranny starting '98?

You sure; that doesn't sound right. I think you might be thinking of the O/D switch.

My ECT only holds gears a little longer. A little gas holds a little longer, a lot of gas holds a lot longer; but it doesn't have anything to do with alleviating 4th gear.

Which gears are you suggesting?
Mine starts in 1st,revs nearly to redline, shifts into overdrive@115 now with that Weapon-R ecu thing.
I think the power function just advances the throttle position input for the electronic tranny controller. That would explain why I couldn't notice a difference between normal mode/power mode when my ignition was weak,or using cheap gas and was using more throttle than usual.
