Default 92 sc300 low beam bulb problem

Hey everyone,

Excuse me for not finding the solution to this through searching but i could not find anything. So my issue is that recently one of my headlamp bulbs burnt out. I went to the store to got two 9006 sylvania silverstars to replace the bulbs on my 92 sc300. The bulbs plug in perfectly but when it comes time to clock them into the housing to sit correctly in the headlght...No Dice. It turns out that the 9006 bulbs that i got could not fit in the headlight because the plastic housing was just a bit thicker than the stock burned out bulb. I went to the dealer to get the original OEM part for the sc300. Cost 36 bucks compared to the 10.99 at kraigen. SAME DAMN BULB that does not fit. Now i know what your thinking. my car must have aftermarket headlights or somthing that will not allow the bulb to be installed correctly right? Wrong both of the headlight have the toyota numbers.

I also have a 1997 sc300. i took the bulb out of that car and switched it with the new bulb i got out of the dealer. Fits perfectly. so along the way toyota screwed up and discontinued the design or whatever bulb to my 92 sc300. So what can i do now guys? need some feedback

Thanks

Most of us use 9006, unless you have ebay lights which are H1 i think. If it looks like stock headlights I don't see why the 9006's won't fit. Sometimes the problem is fat hands =P

Try rotating the bulb about 45 degrees or so and try putting them in. We just picked up a new-to-me '98 GS300 and wanted to change the bulbs out and I had the exact same problem. I just rotated the bulb and tried inserting it and it worked. The notches on the base of the bulb are not exactly the same size, you may have tried inserting the bulb incorrectly, square peg into a round hold type of deal.

Your headlights are JDM Soarer headlights and the socket is different than the one for the 9006 bulbs. I had the same problem.

I did the same thing but it didn't make it perfect, I had to just use electrical tape to hold it flush until I could order new ones. LOL

You might be able to just find what type of bulb it takes and order it online though.

Bump on this.. I need Soarer Light bulbs bad!!! Strapped for cash.. and I am leary of plug strange light bulbs into strange sockets..

The light bulb that came outta my headlamps are Koito bulbs, but I cant find any of them anywhere! I even went to their webpage and nothing about ordering them. Called the local VIP shop and I couldn't understand a word the guy was saying on the other line.. im sure he was thinking the same.

Soarer bulbs are 9005 like the high beams. I had them on my last SC and I also have another set of soarer headlights that use the same 9005.

Pics of the bulbs.. Looks close, but pay close attention to the "teeth" of the light bulbs..

Just get the 9005 bulbs for the high beam and you will see they fit perfect. I went through this already and once I tried the 9005 it worked. The one on the left is what came out of my soarer headlights too. Koito is the oem brand for the bulbs.

Soarer headlights use different bulbs and the turn signal housing is orange while the usdm is chrome with orange bulbs. That's the only difference.

You can also see the base where the bulb is connected too is wider compared to the 9005 bulb.

Just got back from outside.. Okay so I took one of the light bulbs out of the high beams and tried to install it for the low beam head lamps.. No go. The light bulb connection (where it plugs into power) has two little ridges in the center of the input area.. instead of the 9006's single ridge.. How ever my pops my have found some JDM lights in florida somewhere.. hopefully they have detailed pics.. Thanks for tyin to help!

Do the bulbs fit into the low beams at least?

I am selling a pair of jdm soarer headlights and I'm in Florida. The only thing is that the passenger side was baked and taken apart because I was going to do a retrofit but never finished.
