AMEN...They have no clue. Mine is not a 97+ but you get the general idea on looks of a hidden FMIC. Crossbars are not shaved but then again, don't need to be.

I got pulled over one night cause my tails went out on me. Cops walk around every inch of the car looking up and down. One of them stays at the front and he's just staring at the recirculation hose and intercooler and the look on his face was priceless.

The other cop was checking out inside and asked what all the gauges were about... lol

Heres what my 93' looked like when I had it all cut up. I'm rolling with a 97' front now... stealth...

It looked funny like that so I cut the bottom out.

Hmm the whole cop thing got me worried about once I go turbo. Is there any way to get it painted/coated to a black color and not lose it's efficiency? I know Mishimoto has a black inter cooler but I didn't read anything about if the painted or coated it.

Default hmm

From what I have read about painting intercoolers black for the stealth look it holds heat in, which lowers the efficiency of the intercooler... I am not sure of the percentage decrease(?), but it kind of makes sense that this would be true in some form. Of course another idea would be a black mesh screen...

The 97' bumper hides the cooler pretty well. You would actually have to get up in front of it to see it.

Here's a camera phone shot of my front after cutting the bars out, took it tonight while we were doing some work on it. Curry, you should look into mounting the intercooler higher so it doesn't hang out below the bumper like that.

I mounted mine pretty far back on my 97 bumper with the bars still in. You can't even see it unless you're straight ahead, or looking for it.

Actually black absorbs heat better, not retains. In fact black is worse at retaining heat then say, something shiny. So for something black, it will get hot faster but will also cool faster. For say polished metal, or better yet gold, it absorbers the heat slower but then does not let go of it as fast. I plan to paint my FMIC black, since its not really around anything hot, there shouldn't be much heat for it to absorb. and in the sun it sits pretty deep in a JIC kit

How tall is your IC gunnar? I got mine up as high as it would go. Any higher and theres a lot of stuff in the way. I did get a new 97' bumper so everything is hidden now. Never had an issue with it scraping either.
