help something wrong with fuse

Default help something wrong with fuse

I accidentally dropped a penny into the cigarette lighter and now my outside temp and ac won't work. I know there's something wrong with the fuse and it's in the driver's kick panel but i've never placed a fuse before. I tried search and there's no detailed instruction on how to do this easy fix. Do i just go buy a 15a or whatever fuse from the auto store? i don't really know where the kick panel is...lol

any help is appreciated

Kick panel is below right next to your left foot when you're in the car. Just get under there with a flashlight and pop off the main cover. Then you'll see a bunch of fuses. You'll probably need a 10a fuse that you can pick up anywhere. Just use pliers to pull out the old one then replace it and you'll be back up and running. There should be a diagram with which fuse you need to pull. I did this last year and even I was able to replace it and I'm just about the least technically gifted member on this forum.

which 15a fuse is it? there's like 4 of them. And how do you tell if one is blown or not?

There should be a diagram on inside cover of the panel that tells you which is the right one. I believe its marked cigarette lighter (or some abbreviation thereof) Hold the fuse up to light and the metal filament should look broken or cracked thats the simplest scenario.

take it to the dealer and get some needed servcie then just mention the issue...works everytime.

you don't want to spend $85-$95 (minimum dealer rate/hr) replacing a 50cent fuse. check the diagram, find the fuse, check if it's broken (there would be a crack in the metal inside the colored plastic) pull it out and plug the new one in.

just yesterday my windshield wipers stopped working, there couldn't be a specific fuse JUST for that could there? I haven't looked yet, figured I would try this first.

Yup there is...most major electricals have them, well that is the case for the GM car and Toyota I have so I would assume Lexus follows suit. There are 2 boxes in most cars 1 kickpanel under or near steering wheel and another box in the engine compartment.

Hello,

On my 1992 sc400, the fuse panel is on the left wall under the driver side.

It has a small black cover that just pops off revealing the fuses.

They are numbered thusly:

1 2 3 4 5

6 7 8 9 10 11 16

12 13 14 15

17 18 19

#3 is 20amp for windshield wipers and washers.

#10 is 15 amp cigarette lighter, etc.

#11 is 7.5 amp radio, etc.

Under the hood, sort of over the driver side wheel is another black fuse box containing fuses 20 thru 32.

#23 is 20 amp another radio, etc fuse.

It is the fourth from the left in the string of 10 or so fuses.

One of these three should hopefully fix you up.

this exact same situation happened to me about 2 weeks ago, i was stoned and accidently dropped a penny into my cigarette lighter and blew the fuse so the lighter and my ac stopped working. the fuse is right by where your left foot is when you are in the car, just go for the 15a blue fuse that's in there and replace it a spare 15a that is in the fuse box in the engine bay. i didn't know our cars had spares until a fellow employee who is a lexus tech who has a yellow drift bucket altezza, helped me out with the problem when i had mentioned what was going on. so yeah take a look in your engine bay and there should be a spare in there that you can replace your blown one with, the whole process takes about 5 minutes

Do you know if these are the same for the 300? Mine didn't have the cover

I pulled the fuse info from the owner's manual, so if you can find one for the sc300 it should answer this.
