the defroster. the thin strips of metal going in a zig-zag pattern down the back window probably shorted out and blew out the window its happened in a few cars i know/ have had in the shop

Weird. I was guessing either bass from some subs, entirely caused by the hail or maybe a crack already in the glass and got worse with the addition of hail, etc., or some kind of a freak occurrence...
