Does anyone know if its necessary to drain the fuel system before removing the engine?

I started the swap today. It was just me and one other friend and we got a fair amount of work done for a couple of novices. We unhooked pretty much everything except for some of the harness plugs. I think with a few hours of work tomorrow we should have the engine out. I'll post some pics of the progress tomorrow.

Good luck with the swap. More pics!

I would drain the gas. I remember when we were pulling my 1uz out of the old car, gas kept flowing out, slowly though... But that could be cause we cut the lines and it had half a tank.

I could so use that tranny right now. Too bad you aren't local...

Seehere for a nice trick on getting that crank bolt off:

Using the chain wrench worked great for me when I did it! Only place I could find that had the wrench though was AutoZone, FYI.

More pictures from yesterday. We got the motor out and now I'm taking a break from wiring and putting the W58 onto the 1JZ.

Here are my friends cars. There is a tC with exhaust and rims, and two Tercels with 4E-FTE swaps.

Progress from the last two days. We've only been working from like 9am to around 2pm, so excuse the pace. We got the clutch and the w58 bolted up to the 1jz, and got the wiring done. The engine is about 3/4 of the way in. We just need to line up the mounts now and plug everything in.
