Default 1995 sc300 oil around top of motor

have a sc300 changed minor things on the car nothing major to scared ill mess up . car has oil little above exhaust manifold I would say cam seals? car sat for a little over a year hit 107k recently. I feel like it has a lack of power when already at a roll and get on it . looking into changing sparks and wires maybe even distributor . any experiences on doing so . I would say im a bit green on such things .. I will be spraying it down with engine degreaser and try to confirm if it is leaking or spilled oil from putting in to much oil at a time with a funnel

I would assume it is the valve cover gasket which can leak into the spark plug area and cause your car to run a bit poor.

Most likely your valve cover gaskets are leaking. I would advise doing them when you do your plugs.

^^^ Leaking valve cover gaskets are the likely culprit. Second to that: cam seals. The spark plug galley having any excess moisture from coolant or oil causes misfiring and/or loss of power. I agree with AnonymousG. I did my valve gaskets recently with my spark plugs. Major PITA to do but once it was over with everything was much better.

This shouldn't be an issue but if you're going to do it yourself also be mindful of keeping the coolant bypass hose on your throttle body from leaking any excess into the spark galley during disassembly and reassembly.

In doing this procedure it also would be a convenient time to have your valve covers blasted and repainted.

thanks for the input I sprayed down the motor with engine degreaser and lightly power washed and wiped it down there is no oil yet . I guess we will see when time for sparks . kind of thinking on going turbo but might try to pick up another with a clean title to sink money into hopefully find another 5 speed . should have never sold mine ..
