Help I'm rubbing!
 

I just bought a 93 SC400 and LOVE the car. However I noticed grooves in the tires and can hear rubbing when I turn hard or bit a dip/bump in the road when at speed.

It has 245/45/17 wheels on it that fill the wheel wells really well and look nice but I have my doubts as to how much planning went into picking the rims by the former owner, as far as offset and camber etc.

I am wondering what the best way to fix this would be, and expense is a concern as well.
What I have thought of is..

1. Get lower Profile tires next time.

2. Replace my rear suspension because the stock springs/struts are worn out.

3. "Roll" the fenders, although I don't know the way to do this so if this would be good and have a link of "how too" that would be great.

245/55?? That doesn't sound right. Is there any reason why you went with 55 profile?

Chrono=> These were the tires on the car when I bought it yesterday. They might be a bit wider than 245, I dont remember right now but they are big looking tires. The guy put American Racing chrome 5 star rims on that are a hair gawdy for my taste but they will suffice till I feel like buying something better.

those tires are too tall

We need more info.

1. Width/offset of the wheels.
2. Is it for the F or R?

It seems the easiest and cheapest for your problem is to get new tires.

Assuming you have 18x8 ~ 8.5, your side profile should be 40.

i would suggest rolling the fenders. thats what i plan on doing to my ride sometime in the near future. but yea..on my ride i got 245/35 in the fronts and 275/45 in the rears and i have no rubbing unless i really hit a big dip hard. otherwise im good. its the wall height thats giving you problems. so rolling and get lower profile tires

go to google "fender roller + rent" and you can find tons of companies that may rent out the rollers, or you could just buy one and charge your friends to use it. Many of these sites also give instructions.

And more info and pics on the tires would be helpful for most.

Ok I found a couple places to rent a fender roller and I'm taking it in to the tire shop to get the tires rotated and going to ask them to look at the rear suspension and see if it's shot.
I figure the previous owner most likely didn't take offset and such into consideration and bout some silly "blingy" wheels for this thing and now they rub.
Update: from the tire wear when I lay under it and look from behind it looks like it is also rubbing on the inside of the wheel well.
