Any Idea's on how to remove ECU?

Hello, I came to the conclusion I fried my ecu, I bought a new one... and I hear that it is under the glove box right? well i took off the bottom plastic panel, the two screws holding the top panel in, and I can't seem to get that top panel off (the one right below the glove box that wraps around the edge)

does anyone have any tips or tricks to getting this done?!?!? just pull on it? or what is holding it in? thank you so much!

I'd suggest against that, the airbags are worth some money. PM me if you want to selll some parts from your totalled SC.

What screw(s) do I remove to get the cable bundle to release from the ECU? I assume this is one large connector that pulls off. There is a large hex head screw in the middle of the connector and several Phillips head screws around the perimeter.

Got the Answer I Needed

After I figured this out, I decided to post instructions on locating and removing the main engine computer in a 1992 SC300.

Remove ECU (Engine Control Unit).

Disconnect the negative battery terminal to eliminate a chance of an electrical problem.

The ECU is located beneath the carpet on the passenger side floor near the engine firewall.

Remove the lower trim panel (below glove box, above passenger feet). Pull out (2) black plastic trim buttons at the forward edge of the panel. Slide the panel toward you to unlock about 4 clips along the upper edge and set the panel aside.

Pull back the carpet on the vertical angled part of the foot space. Release the carpet from the door edge trim and the left side that is tucked under the dash and center console trim. Pull the carpet back enough to fully expose the large, black, hard plastic panel covering the ECU.

Remove (2) 10mm hex head nuts holding the lower part of the panel. Lift the bottom of the panel toward you to release the upper connection point, and set the panel aside.

The engine computer is a silver box measuring 8x8x2 inches with (3) 40-pin cable connectors attached. A label says "Engine Control" followed by the Toyota part number (89661-24301 for my 1992 SC300 with 5-speed manual transmission). The label identifies the engine (2JZ-GE, for example) and M/T or A/T (manual transmission or automatic transmission).

Remove the 10mm nut holding the computer bracket to the floor. Pivot the computer upward to release from the upper clip.

To disconnect from the wiring harness, loosen a captive 10mm hex bolt in the center of two 40-pin sockets on the left side and pull the wide connector off. The remaining 40-pin connector is retained by a clip on top. Push down on a plastic release on the top center of the connector and pull the plug loose from the socket. Protect the cable connectors from dirt by placing inside a plastic bag while you have the computer removed for rebuild or replacement.

If this isn't self explanatory from looking at it, you should absolutely not be working on any motor vehicle and should invest in a year long bus pass. I hear the rates are decent when you buy for long term.
