Default cleaned headlights and sylvania silverstar ultra 2

i cleaned up my headlights a bit. first i put autobody masking tape around the lights to make sure i didnt scratch the paint. next i sanded the lights with 1500 grit sandpaper, then 2000 grit. then i polished them with meguiar's plastx with a polishing pad attachment for my drill. they are not as perfect and brand new headlights but they do look very good. i might polish them again in the morning. overall i am happy with the results, it was definately worth the time and $20 in supplies.

i also replaced the old sylvania 51watt hb4 light bulbs with sylvania 55watt silverstar ultra 2's. i got the su2's off of ebay for $27 shipped. this only made a slight difference.

after cleaning:

masking is the way to go. way easier than taking them off the car.

ditto, looks great, I did mine with 1000 grit, and polished it, but it didn't come out like yours. Your headlights are beautiful!

can you go from 1500 to plastic x right away? or do you have to switch to 2000?

if you use 1500 i'd use 2000 after that.

on the lights that didnt have any scratches i skipped the 1500. i just did the 2000 and then plastx.

same way, just the hassle of taking them off and opening

i need to clean mine as well but i plan on cleaning inside & out, i just hate all the hassle lol...

rawdil49's turned out pretty dang good for just the outside, i might do that for now, unless i do another retrofit

I've been scared to tear my headlights up and open them. I need to, though. If you clean just the outsides, it makes a huge difference, though.
