I am going to give this a shot today, if I can find the correct capacitor.

BUMPED !!!

I even may try this one. Trying to locate an old set of tails with harness. I knew I should have pulled them at LKQ when I had a chance. LOL

Mike, which version did you do? The added bulbs inline with stock harness or the added resistor? If you used the resistor, which type did you use? I looked at Radio Shack and they had like 5 versions I could get with the same specs. They started at .87 and went to 7.97 each.

Thanks

I did the capacitor one from the first page. I ordered a cap but I ended up with 5 extra capacitors, if anyone needing one let me know. It fixed it perfect, thanks to this diy

Thank you Mike for the word of advice and sending me the cap. I will let you know when I receive it.

Thanks again,

Mark

You can't tell if a bulb is gone without going around your car with emergency signals on though.

So... There is a current simulator circuit used when emergency lights are turned on. It will make sure that the lights are blinking at the right rate even when all but one bulb have been broken.
This mod will use that circuit when you use normal signals as well.
All you need is two small general purpose diodes (I used 4148 diodes which are common) .
Here are the instructions:
- Locate, remove and open the flasher unit using the info on this thread.
- Solder the cathode (black stripe) ends to the middle legs of the two transistors.
- Solder the anode ends to end of the resistor you see in the picture (Center one from the three and lower end).
- Make sure the leads do not make contact anywhere else.
- That's it!

why are you people skipping over this? i did this before he posted it.. great minds think alike.. this is better than the janky capacitor method.. capacitor doesnt blink stock rate but the diode method does..

Its blinking just fine at a good rate with a capacitor. why does it have to be 100% stock rate? and that resistor looks like more work

I've probably missed obvious answers while skimming this thread, but I've had enough to drink that I don't care.

I'm installing all LED replacements into '97 lights in my '95 SC400.

I do not care to solder capacitors or resistors or whos-a-whats-its if I can help it. I don't mind pulling the bulb from the cluster. I need to pull my airbag light anyway.

I assume I'll need the aftermarket flasher to avoid the hyperblink issue. I got under my dash earlier today and checked out the relay. Mine looks nothing like any other I noticed in this thread.

Check this out.

you can also replace the little metal loop shunt on the other side of the flasher with any ohm resistor really, just has to be a high wattage resistor. i used a 10 and i have LEDs all around and it works. you have to have LEDs all around however because the higher wattage from the halogen bulbs will fry the resistor. here's where i got the resistors, all u need is one 10 ohm, or lower i think. i think if you get the really really low one, bhango who's a memeber here said that u get the stock hyperblinking when a bulb goes out. so if you want that you can get the like .035 resistor or watever it is.

my thread and how i fixed it, been working for a month now:

So just to clarify my thought process on the 97+ tailight swap on earlier 92-94 models, I have a 1994 Lexus sc300 that I'd like to convert to 97 tail lights.

- The wiring harness is plug and play with all bulbs needed, no issues here.
- Add a 4.7uF 50V capacitor to the stock relay capacitor to solve hyperblink issue.

Is there a particular brand of capacitor you guys are buying?

Anything else I'm missing?

Default Change flasher to 97+?

Instead of modding the flasher, can anyone clarify if changing the flasher on a 92 SC to a 97+ flasher fix the problem?
I am planning to get a 97+ flasher from a junkyard and i want to clarify if it works or not.

Would anyone know the difference between the two flashers?

Why spend the extra money, a simple 10 cent capacitor would fix the problem.

Did this over the weekend. The light indicator warning in the cluster is killing me so I'm going to pull that bulb. But now for some reason, my AC button backlights don't work. I hope they're not related.
