Default GS400 vs. SC400

hei guys,
im in the process of getting a new car and the good news is that I'm gonna get a Lexus. Now, out of several Lexus' brand out there, it came down to two cars which is; GS400 and SC400. I like them both, but I can only pick one. How does SC maintenance compared to the GS, which car part's cost more. And what's the deal with the 10 xtra hp on the GS...'cus i thought they're all running the same engine..?? This is gonna be my daily drive and im not thinking about modifying her untill i finish school in about 2-3 yrs, so its gonna be strickly a stocker ride. And what about the backseat on the SCs, can a average man sit comfortably there..?? I know that this is an SC's forum, that's why im putting the same thread over there as well. I looked around for some answer already on the forum, but so far i have no luck. I need to purchase this car before the year's end, so i need you input as soon as you can por favor with sugar on top.

thanks ahead,
Ray

the gs will have some of the qwerks the sc has. i dont know about the horsepower difference, seems odd to me.

I have sat in my back seat of my sc before and i am 6' 1".
it is bearable but i wouldnt do it for a roadtrip. kids and shorter people will fit in just fine depending on how tall the driver/front passenger are.

the gs is bigger and more confort, the sc is smaller and more sporty.
comes down to what you will be using it for.

I think it all depends on which generation sc/gs you are considering. It'll make the choice my easier.

Well, its gonna be my daily beater such as; going to school, market, workplace, etc. I wouldn't be using this car for any performance usage, since its gonna be a big hassle of smogging it. I'll be riding solo for most of the time and my gf once in awhile.

I think that the GS will suit you better. Dont get me wrong, I love my SC but the back seat on the SC is small. They both have the same basic engine so no big difference on parts cost. The GS is a little more luxury but the SC is more sporty. Both are great cars but the GS wins for being a great DD.

Presonally, I would take the 2000 sc 400, for $9,995 is a STEAL. 98-00 sc 400's are a hard find and usually $15k + Pretty rare. It took me a long time to find my silver/blk w/ 76k miles (then) well taken care of. GS's are a dime a dozen (look outdated too) and you won't get the same looks as you would if you were rollin a sc 400 (still look good). Goodluck on your decision.

Well, if its a 2000 SC for $10,000 then get the GS and let me know where the SC is!

the sc gets you more looks from the ladies. and the gs will allow you transport more of those ladies with you....in comfort. if youre looking for a DD go with a GS. if you want to do some mods to it go with an SC.

If you really need the extra space to carry people around...go for the GS. Otherwise, the SC works fine for two and has plenty of room in the trunk for stuff. Powerwise, 98+ SC400 is pretty much the same as the GS4. The 10 extra hp comes from different exhaust routing.
