Default Another "my gas mileage stinks" thread.

I pulled the Sc out of storage to drive for the winter

(a) because it is a very comfy car for the winter.

(b) because I need to do a brake job on the Benz (ordered the parts yesterday) and don't want to drive it this winter if possible.

Before I stuck it in storage I changed the plugs, oil, and what not. It's all maintained. I may just be spoiled on my Benz 300hp V8 getting 26mpg, but I swear I do not remember the Sc getting this bad of gas mileage. I put $25 in gas in it YESTERDAY and went about 150 miles.... came back in the driveway with the gas light on

That's 18 miles to the gallon.

If it keeps going this way I am going to be getting my exercise this winter because I am going to have to get out and push when I get halfway there.

So I figured it just needed to be blown out a bit. I got on it and ran a few good sprints........ all I blew out was my gas.

I think it might be time for a few new o2 sensors. That outta clear it up and get me 22-ish.

/vent

Could be o2 sensors. Are they original?

hellifiknow () I'm going to find out when I get under there though. I wish I'd have kept mine off my parts car, but they likely wouldn't have been too much better. This is one of those things you gotta buy new.

i'm getting 12-13 MPG. If the O2 sensors are bad, do you still have no engine light? i thought you're supposed to get an engine light.

O.L.T,
please keep us update with this thread. I'm a potential SC400 owner in the future and would like to know how to maintain my so called "future car" especially if I'm pulling 18mpg. Btw, is this an SC300 or SC400 and how about air filter, can that be problem as well..??

thanks ahead,
Ray

If you find any increase in MPG with replacing those O2 sensors, please let us know!

92-00 SC can hold about 20.5 gallons of fuel.

before replacing the o2 sensors, i think you should test the resistance if they are working properly first...o2 are expensive.

Like any sensors they will become more unresponsive over time as the silicone in the chip ages. The heat doesn't help a bit. They are not like the MAF which gets cold air. Cleaning the o2's are not like cleaning the maf which is just dirty. o2's get heat damaged. These, as said earlier are one thing you really should replace new.
