Any threat of SERIOUS damage?
 

Sometimes when im out driving around ill pull my ebrake and slide around turns (only when there r no other cars around). I was just wondering if there r any serious threats of me seriously damadging my Lexus (parts, etc.)? I know that if i fly off the road, etc. there will be damage, but i only do it when the road im turing on is pretty wide. Thanks.

hehe, practicing your drifting techniques eh? lucky guy. i have no idea if it will damange anything though. maybe wear out your suspension a bit from the tight turns and tires maybe. who knows??

Used to do that a long time ago. One of the negative things that can happen is collapsing or rolling a tire off of the rim. If your tire grabs pavement in a sideways drift it can roll under, brake away from the rim, and let loose its air. This makes for a dicey situation. Almost like a blowout. Lost a nice rim that way on a 240Z. When it happened, the car went up on two wheels. Not something you ever plan on. This never happens in the movies either! But it does happen so beware.

Christ, how fast were you going when you did the e-brake pull?
I've done it many times and never experienced anything like that. Guess I've just been lucky.

It was about 60 to 65 MPH. It was at Lyme Rock raceway back in 1973 at turn one (big right at end of straighaway). I begain a braked power drift, the rear came around and hit a patch of grippy track. The drivers side rear poped. Luckily it was a Datsun time trial day for street cars. Back then Datsun used to rent the entire track for us to try our cars.

It was sobering. This can happen if you tires are underinflated or newly mounted. That was pretty much my situation.

I wouldn't use the ebrake... I just go into a turn and hit the brakes right before then hit the gas a bit and drift into the corner... I've got 17s on so I dunno about the sidewall tucking and rolling

Its easy to control in the Lex; I love it.

Back to the Lexus's doing e-brake turns. Don't do them at speeds above 30 mph, the car is a luxury car, not a rally car.
