today when i was driving down to santa monica in umm mid 80 degree temps, my temp guage started to climb so i blasted the heater to cool it down and pulled over for sometime.


what could be wrong? what could i do to better cool the car? i mean, i never had any problems with any of my other cars with similar cooling mods and this surpised me and concerned me greatly.

 

umm, you might wanna check for air bubbles.. you might not have cleared them all the way... pop the cap off and turn on the heater with the car on, and just let it breathe out a bit... or you might be low on coolant, or your fans might not be turning on(like mine did once) or maybe your temp sensor is effed...? maybe?

 

or you have an open system that needs to be fix. aka not building vacuum in your system

 

By Vacuum, he really means pressure...or the opposite of vacuum. if the radiator cap cannot hold pressure in the cooling system (which, by increasing pressure inside the cooling system it effectively raises the boiling point of the fluid), then it can cause a car to run hotter than normal. Generally you would not notice this to any severe degree unless you were pushing the car extremely hard or it was fairly hot out that day and/or there was insufficient airflow. IMHO, start with jgdynamics first suggestion. Its free, easy to do, and a complete possibility. After that, then test the rad cap and jgdynamics other suggestions.

 

Possibly a stuck thermostat?
