New to SC300's

I'm looking at buying a 94 SC300. I love the way these cars look and if I get it, it will be my daily driver. No racing or anything like that.

I found it on Autotrader so I havn't seen the car in person yet. What should I look for on the car when I go check it out? What are some known problems with SC300's I should check for?

The dealership is asking $4900 for it and it has 150,000 miles on it. I'm hoping I can talk then down to $4000 or less. Does this sound reasonable?

With 150,000 miles, are the engines pretty solid and reliable? I know it depends on how well the car has been treated but I'm just asking in general if they're reliable.

Thanks for the help!

Welcome to club lexus 2slow40 .the sc is a very solid reliable car so at 150K miles it should still be reliable (if the previous owners kept up with mantainance ).ive seen v8's with 250k+ running strong as ever .here we have a search feature that is very informative so whatever questions you have this will help .enjoy your stay and happy moddings:thumbup:

Yeah I read it and have been searching. I just havn't found much about what to check for when buying a SC300 that isn't common on most older cars (besides the powersteering pump leaking and the front suspension bushings wearing out quick).

Maybe I just suck at searching haha

If I was buying a high mileage SC for a daily driver, I would favor the V8 since it is that much more smooth, powerful, and reliable at high mileage. But, 150k miles is far from the end of the world for a 3L that was maintained properly.

This site should really help with your general questions: http://www.intellexual.net/faq.html

You might also want to read a post I made about a very similar question within the past two weeks:

With your budget, I would sit tight until I got a similarly good deal on a V8. But, a healthy 3L with 150k miles for $4k will definitely not treat you wrongly.

If that is an Auto then its priced right, if its a 5 spd manual SNATCH IT UP!

If your high-mile engine goes in the 300, there are replacements.........

If you just want a reliable daily driver that will last FOREVER, just get the sc400. And this is from a guy who owns a 300.

V8's just last longer.

I agree with above, but 5spd SC300 is "the Funner" one.

With that said, I find that the gearing for the SC300 is to cruise @ 55-60 mph (right under the 3kish powerband) to save on MPG. However, now with the increased speed limit (65 on most highways in CA) it puts the SC300 @ 3000rpm going 70mph. Bottom line (IMO), if you're a speeder (avg 80mph) I'd go for the sc400.

yea 80MPH is about 3krpm give or take 100 ;]
thats considered a speeder? 80? O.O dang.. i cruise at around 75-80.. dang i gotta slow down now :\

u can get 20+mpg :D i got 23-24 from driving highway..
