Question need a CLUBLEXUS OPINION

i need help
im looking for a body kit
think i have found one
fairly good price ......not the god awful $3000 for the japan models
but anyways im looking for some opinions on paint

should i go with the black and just put a buncha clear coat on there so it looks wet.... and the have rock guard on the body kit to prevent chips

or should i get black with a dark pearl so that it makes people have to sit there and stare at it for a while to figure out what color it is... is it black or is it dark blue, red, gree, whatever

or do a black and put metallic flakes in it so it sparkles..
i dunno... im having a tough decision...
i like the flakes and pearl
but u know how they always say ... if one part of the car gets messed up .... ur prolly gonna have to repaint the whole car to get it so that they will match perfect

cause thats my main concern is to have everything match
so i would have the whole car repainted so nothing will go unmatched and the whole car will be a team

thanks
ian

Black on a car always looks good. A few problems with black though, it's hard to keep clean - when it gets dirty it really shows, swirl marks are your worst enemy on a black car.

Paint with metallic flakes will begin to fade after a few years.

I'm not sure if I understand a black car with a dark pearl, the only paint that I know of that can change colors would be chameleon paint, lotsa $$$.

Non-Metallic black is your best bet. Spraying metallics takes skills that few painter possess. "Flat" black is also the easiest color to match. It's a no brainer.

When you start getting into metallic flakes, there are SO many variables that will affect the final outcome. It's tricky.

Also, by using the standard black, you won't need to repaint your whole car which saves you money. And when you need to do repair paint, it's easy to do.

What kit did you get?

What kit(s) are you referring to when you say "god awful"?i

Having owned nothing but black cars (non-metallic), I can say that it will be the easiest to match if a repaint is necessary. However, I have found that different substrates (urethane, metal, fiberglass, etc) will have a slight effect on the final hue of the paint. On my '94 RX-7, the bumpers and headlight covers (urethane) have a reddish hue, where the rest of the car (aluminum and steel) have a blueish hue. My '87 also had the same changes, but it was much harder to see since there were little rubber strips between the components which visually broke things up a bit.

As to swirl marks, a good polish/finish system, such as Zaino will pretty much eliminate them.

Don't pearl coats have to go over some sort of reflective color (eg not black) to be able to "play" with the light?

Has anyone seen the black on the new M3's? Is that just a flat black? That's the color I want to paint my SC..

IMO....i would repaint the entire car a charcoal gray (like on the IS) or like a gunmetal gray. I think thats what im gonna do when i get my Bomex kit (prob. around next yr. when im on college) i know this isn't what u want to do, but i was just lettin u know what a fellow CL member is thinking about.
PS....does anyone know who owns that gray SC in the gallery, and how much it cost them to get it repainted?

trudremz16 - Yes, I agree that those kits you listed aren't my favorite either. However, AutoCouture makes a very clean kit for the SC and it's not $3000...I think it's about $2000...

If you're interested, I can get you an exact price...

Here's what it looks like...
