And I also know Vertex makes an OEM style CF and a FRP hood.

I was hoping someone would do a thread on this subject, also if weight could be incl., and o-yeah how do c-f hoods work with stock hood latch? I beieive this would be good reduction of weight for those with the price of admission.

Well from what I believe, if you have a cf hood you're going to want to put hoodpins in just in case. The lighter hood means you can't use the stock hood shocks and the latch is under more stress because the heavy stock hood isn't pushing down on it anymore.

P.S. Most of the cf hoods weigh in at about 20 pounds or so...I believe.

weight is pretty generic

it will pretty much everywhere be a 20% loss in weight

C.F. hood only weighs 20% less, whats up with that, I was expecting 50-75 %.

you could pay for dry carbon hood for 3000 or so, then you'll definitely see at least 50%

Stock SC hood is about 60lbs.
Most of these hoods weigh about 20lbs.
I don't know the weight of the T&E hood but that's dry carbon and is stronger than the wet process hoods and weighs less but I don't think there's any American distributor anymore. Speed Alliance used to carry the Vertex doors, hoods and trunk but I don't see them on their website anymore.

speedalliance carries it all but you have to special order.

5. none, except the stock bumpstops don't work... some modification to them, and it fits as good as the stock hood...

some notes: I have used the stock latch since I installed it over a year ago, with no issues, and no hoodpins *gasp* seriously, it works just fine, I just remember to tug up on it everytime I close it to make sure its latched right (sometimes it closes, but doesn't latch fully)

it weighs, just as a guess, ALOT less than the stock boat anchor...

600.00 sounds like a good deal if a guy could find it for that, Im just trying to figure out how 40lbs is going to make a noticable difference in perf.

search ebay for "sc400 hood" and there ya go... they are on there all the time...

Not true, the Vertex hood is Dry Carbon....costs a fortune but is the lightest hood available. Unfortunatly, it can no vent =/ Which leads me to the Varis CF hood....it's definatly lighter than the Seibon/VIS/other knockoff brands. Here's a pic of the Varis hood:

- No longer manufactured. I THINK, They were just ahead of their time a bit. Most people didnt know 'why' they (Autoclaved parts) cost more than the 'other' (hand laid) CF hoods out there. Then there were a lot of people who simply didnt like the 'finish' :(
- As close to perfect fitment that Ive seen. Many were scrapped in production, because they didnt have the perfect weave I wanted. :cry:

Poorly timed 2000-2001 Production numbers:- 6 hoods, 3 trunks

I'm posting this info to show that Japan isnt the only place capable of making great products for cars. I know its cool to be "JDM TyTe"!, but there are lots of State-Side companies that deserve a chance to show what they can do. :)
