Default Key Replacement - 1992 sc300

I only have one key for my 92 Sc300 so I want to get it copied. I dont care about the button as it doesn't work anyway.

Must I goto the dealer for this or can I goto any auto key shop?

dealers do it. If you are already registered at the dealer than they can do it an a day, but if not you have to register ad that might take longer. Some places in my town do it you just have to ask wether or not the do luxuary car keys, good luck

How expensive is it if you want one with a working button?

I got the car from a friend that had the factory key when he got it but lost it somewhere so all I got with it was the spare.

Did you check the battery and the connection inside. There is a fix it for a tiny piece that comes unsoldered in this forum somewhere. Its good to have it work.

OK, I had to get a second key made yesterday, so this is the deal. only lexus dealers will do it since there specially cut. basic key, without lexus emblem(what i got) is 30 bucks. basic key w/ lexus emblem is 40 bucks. If you want it with remote unlock (no remote start) its $250. We werent registered so it took about 40 mins. and they washed my car too
hope this helps

Lexus will tell you that, but that is not true. As long as the locksmith can do luxury vehicle keys, such as laser cutting, then they can do lexus keys as well. Some places sell switchblade uncut keys for our cars, only a locksmith will cut that key because lexus will only cut keys you buy from them, unless you have a connection.

I got mine with the remote button from a local locksmith dealer. He was gonna charge me only for $30 to cut the key. However that key was only to open the driver door and works for ignition.

For a master key with remote button (which opens the trunk, doors, glove compartment), it costs me $90. They guy needs the VIN number to be able to cut the key.

Then I programmed the key myself. I found the instruction here in CL.

Jimmy,

Yours is 98 SC, the instruction was for a 94 SC.
Even though mine is a 1995, but it worked for me.

You can give it a try, here is the link:

PS: Scroll down to post#10 (for the instruction).
