Default How to make lights flash with factory alarm?

Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out if anyone’s done this before? My ‘97 factory remote produces a chime when I lock and unlock but I’d like the flashers to blink as well. You know, like a modern car. Has anyone done it? Any ideas how I can do this?

'98+ does it, so you might be able to investigate what was added to the system (since there's so much common wiring), as a starting point.

I think I assumed all years do it, though...

Was curious about this so I looked it up since my '95 doesn't do it but my '00 did. looking through the diagram for 95 the anti-theft/door locks box has wires heading to the tail light relay and headlight relay out of connector T7, pins 13 and 5, though this is most likely in the event the alarm is tripped and the lights must flash since the system only ever beeps when you cycle locks.

The 00 theft control box has it's wires on a 25 pin connector, terminals 10 and 23. the system seems to be very similar but has it's wires in different terminals and connectors so I imagine adapting it would be a PITA and not worth it unless you rigged up a way to tap into the beeper's power supply to also light up the lights which sounds like more trouble than it's worth.

My friend and previous owner took it to the dealer because he wanted the beep and lights... They told them those options were not available, it was in the service records. lol..

Nick-- Take a look at what modules exist on the KP Technologies website. 1992-1994's don't even beep from the factory when you unlock or lock the doors with the remote (although the horn and lights will flash if you trigger the alarm).

I bought one of their beep-on-lock-or-unlock modules for my 1993. I still have it and never got around to installing it but it does more than just beep if you use all the features it has.

Alternatively I have seen a couple of aftermarket modules for Corollas and Tacomas which might be possible to adapt to the SC's central locking and lighting circuit. I don't recall any company name for those as those modules already assume your Toyota has a factory beep or chime but no lighting system flash from the factory. If you throw some search terms into youtube you should find the few modules made for this purpose.

You'll need to identify the relevant parts of the central locking and alarm system circuits in the 1997 SC wiring TSRM but it shouldn't be difficult to integrate the appropriate module into our era of car.

As T2D2 mentioned above the 1998-2000 SC's seem to do it. A family member's 1999 LS400 also beeps and flashes from the factory. I think Lexus made both features for lock and unlock standard across the model lineup for model year 1998+. If it's a relatively simple addition to the circuit(s) it may be worth looking into how to replicate whatever the 1998-2000 SC is doing in this regard.
